What is Tawasaw?
Tawasaw is a not for profit, public benefit organization. Its purpose is to promote the social welfare of the Muslim community.
Define Tawasaw (تَوَاصَوْا)
The word Tawasaw comes directly from Surat Al-Asr and Surat Al-Balad. It is a verb in the plural past continuous tense. It is an essential character of the believers that demands them to advise one another, to hold tight to the truth, be patient and to be compassionate and merciful.
وَالْعَصْرِ (1) إِنَّ الْإِنسَانَ لَفِي خُسْرٍ (2) إِلَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْحَقِّ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ
ثمَّ كَانَ مِنَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْمَرْحَمَةِ
”……Be pious scholars of the Lord because of what you have taught of the Scripture and because of what you have studied.” -Surat Ali-Imran 3:79
وَلَكِن كُونُواْ رَبَّانِيِّينَ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تُعَلِّمُونَ الْكِتَابَ وَبِمَا كُنتُمْ تَدْرُسُونَ ......
Tawasaw is where Muslim youth join together to learn and practice the three dimensions of Tawasaw.
Learning the art and science of speaking the truth to a various audiences.
Learning the mechanism of expressing and showing support.
Embodying and practicing the qualities of compassion and mercy.
Through rhetoric and drama, Tawasaw youth creatively educate diverse audiences about the deen, while advancing their own Islamic studies.
Students perform at:
Masjid events: Family Night, Eid Carnivals, Sunday schools, etc.
MSA potlucks and university events
Islamic school events and fairs
County and city events
What do students study?
Youth learn the basic sciences of the deen (Quran, Hadeeth, Seerah,) from qualified Imams and scholars, In Addition, the students learn the art and science of public speaking and debate from qualified teachers in the field.
The goal is to enable the students to deliver Islamically sound knowledge in a proper and confident way. Additionally, they learn rhetoric and drama from contracted teachers, professors, and coaches with experience teaching in these fields.
