Alkhawarizmi Coding

Alkhawarizmi Coding is part of Tawasaw's initiative to bring STEM education to Muslim youth side by side with Islamic education. We are part of an ever-changing society that is increasingly shaped by technology and artificial intelligence.

Tawasaw's vision is to inspire Muslim youth to have a positive impact on the world around them through their ability to read and write in the language of their time (coding).

Scratch is a free, easy-to-use programming language designed by MIT students for children ages 7 to 18. It allows kids to create their own interactive stories, games, and animations. Scratch is a great way for kids to learn the basics of coding in a fun and engaging way.

The Curriculum

The curriculum for this summer camp is designed to teach kids the basics of coding using Scratch. The camp will cover a variety of topics, including:

  • Creating sprites and backgrounds

  • Using blocks to create scripts

  • Controlling movement and animation

  • Using loops and conditionals

  • Working with variables

  • Creating math operations

  • Handling user input and events

The camp will culminate in a final project, in which students will create their own game called "Dragon."

  • Developing problem-solving and critical thinking skills

  • Gaining an understanding of how technology works

  • Learning teamwork

He introduced the world to Hindu-Arabic numerals and wrote a book on Algebra.  Did you ever notice that "Algebra" sounds like arabic?  That's because it is! He was born in Baghdad in 780 and lived until 850.  

Encyclopedia Britannica describes Algebra as:

"Algebra is a compilation of rules, together with demonstrations, for finding solutions of linear and quadratic equations based on intuitive geometric arguments, rather than the abstract notation now associated with the subject."
