2 moments mention “Khutbah”:

  1. Alhamdulillah for the blessing of
  2. security,
  3. for the blessing of peace,
  4. for the blessing of stability.
  5. Uh something that our brothers and
  6. sisters in Gaza are far, far away from
  7. enjoying.
  8. They cannot even sit down like that.
  9. They haven't had a proper salat
  10. al-Jumu'ah in now almost a year.
  11. That and a proper They have turned their
  12. tents into places of memorizing the
  13. Quran.
  14. So, the memorization is going. I don't
  15. know if you've seen the videos of ladies
  16. while breastfeeding their kids.
  17. That's a student sitting down with a
  18. teacher who's um checking her
  19. memorization.
  20. And half of war, living in a tent, the
  21. school is in a tent,
  22. wife,
  23. little child, infant, must be in the
  24. first 2 years.
  25. And all of that did not stop her from
  26. memorizing Quran.
  27. Quite a
  28. a scene that one might read about in in
  29. the books in the old times, you know.
  30. So, alhamdulillah that we It's an honor
  31. to live at the same time on the same
  32. planet
  33. as those people in Gaza. It's really an
  34. honor. We're witnessing history. We are
  35. Maybe they will make dua for us and
  36. Allah will answer their dua.
  37. I am more
  38. more you know, more hopeful in their dua
  39. than our dua
  40. for them even though we have to make
  41. dua. May Allah accept our dua. May Allah
  42. give him give them mercy. May Allah give
  43. them
  44. peace, security.
  45. May Allah give them
  46. a good economy. May Allah stop this war
  47. with in a way that he can plan subhanahu
  48. wa ta'ala. And may Allah help us to help
  49. them. And may Allah does not count us
  50. from those who has forsaken them or
  51. forgot about them or that we will be
  52. held responsible on the day of judgment
  53. that we didn't do our best, right? And
  54. because we can have lectures and
  55. lectures can be emotional and nice and
  56. you feel great and high, but at the end
  57. of the day, you're not dealing with the
  58. issues of the time. You're not dealing
  59. with now. And so, let's not I don't
  60. believe anything can be normal. I try my
  61. best with every khutbah that I give,
  62. with every class that I start first by
  63. talking about the people of Gaza,
  64. connecting everything with them. Then
  65. whatever topic we want to talk about, we
  66. can talk about, but let's not forget
  67. them. That's the least. The last two
  68. khutbahs at MCA, I gave a khutbah about
  69. parenting and relationship between
  70. parents and children. Looks like doesn't
  71. have anything to do with Gaza.
  72. But I don't know if you are watching the
  73. 1-minute videos. Something that I
  74. noticed, a 5-year-old is crying about
  75. his parents, normal.
  76. A 10-year-old is crying that he lost his
  77. parents, normal.
  78. A 15-year-old teenager crying so hard
  79. that they lost their parents.
  80. How many teenagers in America cry for
  81. losing one of their parents?
  82. At 20 years old, at 25 years old, at 30,
  83. at 40, at 50 years old crying like a
  84. 5-year-old because he lost his parents.
  85. If you don't look beyond the picture,
  86. there is something that is not
  87. normal everywhere else. This love
  88. between parents and children, you know,
  89. this 12-year-old shaking his dad saying,
  90. "Baba, Baba,
  91. I need you to wake me up so that you can
  92. take me to the masjid on Fajr. Wake up,
  93. Baba. Who's going to take me to Fajr?"
  94. Look, this is caught on video.
  95. So, I said, "What What is it that these
  96. people have? Why these kids love their
  97. parents to this level?" Daughters crying
  98. about their fathers like
  99. like you've never seen before. Sons
  100. crying for their mothers and dads. It's
  101. for young ages normal, but when you see
  102. a 25-year-old crying like a child, that
  103. means there was a strong relationship.
  104. Why don't we have that strong
  105. relationship? What can we learn from the
  106. Quran? So, even with a seemingly
  107. parenting
  108. and parent-children relationship that
  109. seemingly have nothing to do with Gaza,
  110. I still connect it with Gaza. And I want
  111. you to do that. In every conversation,
  112. bring your meeting with your friends.
  113. You're about to eat breakfast. Say, "May
  114. Allah azza wa jal give similar food and
  115. better food to the people of Gaza." Amin
  116. ya rabbal alamin. Allah will reward you
  117. for that. Allah looks at the body that
  118. the Prophet salallahu alayhi wasallam
  119. made an expectation that we're like one
  120. body. If one part of the body is
  121. hurting, the rest of the body is hurting
  122. and reacting with fever
  123. and lack of sleep. That's what the
  124. Prophet salallahu alayhi wasallam. Do
  125. you have fever?
  126. Like mental fever. Are you lacking sleep
  127. because of the people of Gaza? It's too
  128. much to to be now almost a year waiting
  129. for all of that. So,
  130. when I talk about the justice of the
  131. Prophet salallahu alayhi wasallam today,
  132. I'm not talking in a vacuum. I'm talking
  133. in in reality on the ground. What can we
  134. learn from him salallahu alayhi
  135. wasallam? And how can we
  136. embody that ourselves? Because also to
  137. stay in touch with reality. One thing is
  138. happening in in the Muslim world. I I I
  139. don't know. I call it spiritual
  140. schizophrenia
  141. uh in or or schedule is spiritual
  142. bipolar disorder in which you might have
  143. two personality. If someone mentally has
  144. bipolar,
  145. our Prophet salallahu alayhi wasallam
  146. and the Quran tells us they have no
  147. blame on them. Take your medication,
  148. this and that. Uh
  149. and and and there's no So, that the
  150. mental issue is excused by the Quran.
  151. When a person has a serious mental
  152. sickness or illness or not in control,
  153. Allah tells the angels not to write the
  154. deeds anymore. So, they are they're not
  155. But when you have a spiritual bipolar,
  156. right? That
  157. that on one side,
  158. you know, when when when we look at our
  159. reality today and and it's like on one
  160. side,
  161. we want to
  162. care about the people of Gaza and about
  163. Islam and Muslims worldwide, but on the
  164. other side, we just don't want to you
  165. know, we don't want to change our lives.
  166. So, at the end of the day,
  167. a believer has one face, has one heart,
  168. one mind. A believer
  169. seeks to
  170. seeks to fulfill his purpose and his job
  171. in this world. So, if I were to start
  172. and and and and say,
  173. subhanallah, how can I speak about the
  174. Prophet salallahu alayhi wasallam when
  175. he is the Prophet and we are no one to
  176. speak about him.
  177. Uh it's it's embarrassing, but one can
  178. start with what our mother Aisha
  179. radiyallahu ta'ala anha she said about
  180. the Prophet salallahu alayhi wasallam,
  181. his morals, his manners, his character
  182. was al-Quran al-Kareem.
  183. His morals, his character was al-Quran
  184. al-Kareem, right?
  185. But before I start with that,
  186. I want to share with you that this sense
  187. of justice, fairness, doing what is
  188. right, being fair, being just
  189. is a character that the Prophet
  190. salallahu alayhi wasallam had before
  191. receiving the revelation.
  192. And it was one of his qualifications
  193. to receive the revelation. So, we know
  194. part of the qualification, as-sadiq, the
  195. truthful.
  196. Al-amin, the trustworthy. But one of the
  197. things that we actually don't mention,
  198. al-adil, the fair and just before
  199. receiving the revelation. If you want
  200. someone to lead a nation and moreover to
  201. be the last prophet and messenger to
  202. lead humanity, that person has to have a
  203. very strong sense of fairness and
  204. justice.
  205. That is manifested in a saying that the
  206. Prophet salallahu alayhi wasallam said.
  207. He said, "When I was young
  208. and Rasulullah salallahu alayhi
  209. wasallam, we could decipher he was 16,
  210. 17, 18
  211. at that time
  212. or in his early 20s, he I was invited to
  213. an alliance.
  214. An alliance that was established, Hilful
  215. Fudul.
  216. A group of tribes got together
  217. and said,
  218. "Anyone that is oppressed in the city of
  219. Mecca,
  220. we want to give them back their rights."
  221. There is no Islam yet. Revelation didn't
  222. come yet. A group of tribes, one of the
  223. tribes is Bani Hashim. One of the tribes
  224. is Bani Zuhrah. Bani Zuhrah is the tribe
  225. of the mother of the Prophet salallahu
  226. alayhi wasallam, Aminah bint Wahb.
  227. Right? So, they had that very also
  228. strong sense of justice. Like So,
  229. Rasulullah salallahu alayhi wasallam,
  230. you can tell he came from good two
  231. families, right?
  232. And and into me and that just a
  233. footnote,
  234. make sure inshallah
  235. that
  236. as you're growing and inshallah you're
  237. all going to get married,
  238. make sure you have a good family with a
  239. strong sense of goodness, justice. You
  240. will invite a lot of guests to your
  241. home. You will give a lot of charity.
  242. You will make your home a place where
  243. you host halaqas, knowledge, a house of
  244. knowledge because guests bring barakah,
  245. right? And bring knowledge with them.
  246. Make plans like that because believe it
  247. or not,
  248. when you
  249. whatever you intend right now, Allah
  250. will give you a spouse that wants to do
  251. the same thing. And if you and your
  252. spouse do that, you don't know the
  253. impact you're going to make for a long
  254. time, for generations to come.
  255. Yani, the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi
  256. Wasallam, if you read his story
  257. and you go back into his grandparents,
  258. both from the father's side and also
  259. from the mother's side, you will find
  260. that these people, these families in the
  261. middle of Jahiliyyah
  262. drew a different standard for
  263. themselves. Bani Hashim
  264. lived on a different standard than the
  265. rest of Mecca. Even though there is no
  266. Islam yet. Even though there is but with
  267. a sense, pure fitra, they set up that
  268. standard. That affected the Prophet
  269. Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam. Inshallah,
  270. if Allah gives me life and gives me the
  271. time, I wanted to make a record, a
  272. silsila, like a episodes about the
  273. grandparents of the Prophet Sallallahu
  274. Alaihi Wasallam.
  275. And how did he grow up listening to
  276. these stories? These were the big
  277. stories of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi
  278. Wasallam when he was a child and that
  279. had a huge impact on him when he grew
  280. up.
  281. Qusai ibn Kilab. Qusai united Quraysh.
  282. Brought back Quraysh to the Kaaba. And
  283. Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam
  284. before Islam united Quraysh. Quraysh
  285. were about to fight one another. Who's
  286. going to put the black stone? And when
  287. they saw the Prophet coming, they
  288. appointed him as a judge and they said
  289. he's a Sadiq al-Amin. Whatever he says
  290. we will do. There was a trust in the
  291. judgment, trust in the fairness.
  292. Quraysh was not afraid that if they make
  293. Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam the
  294. decision maker, who's going to put the
  295. black stone in its place, that Muhammad
  296. is going to say Bani Hashim is going to
  297. put the stone. They didn't fear that. He
  298. knew he was not going to do that.
  299. So they put him as a judge because
  300. there's a strong sense of fairness.
  301. Second, this
  302. alliance of the virtuous, the alliance
  303. Hilful Fudul,
  304. I want you to hear what the Prophet
  305. Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said about it
  306. after becoming a prophet. He said,
  307. "When I was in my youth,
  308. I got invited to participate in Hilful
  309. Fudul."
  310. Why that's so unique? Because Rasulullah
  311. Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam was young. He
  312. was in his early 20s. So most likely he
  313. wouldn't be invited. Abu Talib will be
  314. invited, you know,
  315. al-Abbas,
  316. Abu Lahab, but not a young man like
  317. Rasulullah. But they sensed in him
  318. strong sense of justice that they
  319. actually invited him to the meeting.
  320. Sometimes it's just an honor to attend a
  321. meeting with the leaders, right? So he
  322. said, "I was invited to a meeting
  323. in my youth, in Quraysh Hilful Fudul.
  324. Wallahi,
  325. I would not I would rather yani I would
  326. not
  327. exchange
  328. that meeting with the weight of Uhud as
  329. gold.
  330. I would not missed that meeting. If
  331. someone told me, 'Miss the meeting and I
  332. will give you the weight of Uhud in
  333. gold,' I would have not spared. I would
  334. not did the exchange.
  335. And then listen to the second statement.
  336. And wallahi,
  337. if I am invited to this
  338. alliance today, I will answer."
  339. Which gives us right now
  340. that opened a whole huge research for
  341. our ulama to say, "Okay, if you're a
  342. Muslim and there is non-Muslims with you
  343. in the society and they come together
  344. and they unite over a good cause,
  345. it is encouraged to you participate. You
  346. don't say, 'I'm a Muslim, they're
  347. kuffar, we don't agree on Islam, so I'm
  348. not going to work with you.' This hadith
  349. became usul, it became a foundation in
  350. political participation, social
  351. participation,
  352. justice participation that when people,
  353. even if they're not Muslims, come
  354. together over an issue and unite over
  355. justice, you participate.
  356. This is a big hadith. So what I want to
  357. tell you, justice and fairness was not
  358. strange to the DNA of Rasulullah
  359. Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam. Was not
  360. strange to
  361. It was in his blood, it was in his
  362. psyche, it was in his persona,
  363. Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, and that was
  364. one of the reasons why Allah chose him
  365. also as a not only a prophet and
  366. messenger but the last prophet and
  367. messenger. So after receiving the
  368. revelation, what happened?
  369. After receiving the revelation, now
  370. Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam is
  371. facing persecution in Mecca.
  372. Right? Facing persecution in Mecca that
  373. he had to endure for 13 years. What
  374. happened in the 13 years?
  375. I just want you to know
  376. that after Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi
  377. Wasallam declared that I am a prophet, I
  378. am a messenger and I invite you to
  379. Allah.
  380. How long did the Prophet Sallallahu
  381. Alaihi Wasallam made a private dawah?
  382. Not secret, it wasn't secret, but it was
  383. private dawah, one-on-one.
  384. It was for 3 years.
  385. Tayyib.
  386. And then Allah told him, "Get up and
  387. declare the message." So he got up and
  388. declared the message. And the first one
  389. that stood against him
  390. was his uncle Abu Lahab and he told him,
  391. "Tabban laka ya Muhammad." And Allah
  392. revealed "Tabbat yada Abi Lahab wa tab."
  393. Okay? Now, I want you to count with me.
  394. 3 years from al-Ba'thah. Now Rasulullah
  395. Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam is
  396. 43 years old cuz he received the
  397. revelation at 40. And I want to share
  398. something with you. He received the
  399. revelation at age 40 lunar.
  400. So he was 39, 38 and a half.
  401. Yani, young. Yani, in his 30s.
  402. Look at the maturity. Right? In America,
  403. they want to dumb you down. "Oh, you're
  404. a teenager." As if teenagers don't have
  405. brains. Like you were excused from
  406. intellect. You're excused from
  407. logic, right? Subhanallah, by age 39,
  408. Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam
  409. received the revelation. So 3 years. Now
  410. he declares the dawah.
  411. Do you know how long after declaring the
  412. dawah did Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi
  413. Wasallam tell his ashab, "Go to
  414. Abyssinia. I cannot protect you anymore.
  415. They're going to go after you. They're
  416. going to kill every last one of you and
  417. I cannot protect you and I don't want
  418. you to be dead. I want to preserve you.
  419. I want you to be my backup plan
  420. just in case something happens to us
  421. here."
  422. You know how long it took for Quraysh to
  423. go from zero to 100?
  424. 2 years.
  425. In the fifth year of al-Ba'thah, now
  426. Rasulullah is not 43, he's 45 lunar
  427. years.
  428. 45, he sent them.
  429. The second time he sent it's not getting
  430. better,
  431. he is in the seventh year
  432. of al-Hijrah, of al-Ba'thah, he sent the
  433. second uh
  434. group of Sahabah to Abyssinia. Do you
  435. know that you know the number of Sahabah
  436. at that time
  437. was like 100.
  438. Do you know 82 of them left to
  439. Abyssinia?
  440. Do you know Mecca was left with nobody?
  441. Rasul Do you know Uthman left with the
  442. first You know, when you say Uthman,
  443. rich man from Bani Umayya. Yani, there
  444. is no reason for Uthman to leave.
  445. Do you know Abu Bakr as-Siddiq was on
  446. his way to immigrate to Abyssinia?
  447. And one of the mushrikin said,
  448. "Under my protection, no way you leave.
  449. You're one of the best people in
  450. Quraysh." So what I'm trying to share
  451. with you is it was a lot of pressure and
  452. it was a lot of oppression. And do you
  453. know what happened from the seventh year
  454. to the tenth year? 3 years of siege,
  455. embargo, and sanction.
  456. Do you know what the people of Gaza are
  457. going through?
  458. Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam
  459. went through it.
  460. Do you know what the Sahabi tells us?
  461. One of the Sahabah that witnessed the 3
  462. years of siege, embargo, and sanction.
  463. Because it wasn't only embargo, it
  464. wasn't only sanctions, it was a siege.
  465. Do you know what a siege is? You can't
  466. leave.
  467. Nor someone can come from outside to
  468. you.
  469. Let me share with you the story. One of
  470. the Sahabah said, "We were under siege
  471. for 3 years.
  472. We used to go a week without eating,
  473. just drinking water.
  474. And I used to feel
  475. the call of nature and that I need to go
  476. and use bathroom number two. And when I
  477. used to go and feel that I need to use
  478. the bathroom, like number two,
  479. al-gha'it,
  480. nothing comes out. But yet the body has
  481. that feeling.
  482. So nothing comes out. So one day I went
  483. to the the to use the bathroom.
  484. And I sat,
  485. you know, he left his clothes, he
  486. squatted. So while he was squatting,
  487. feeling he had something as but nothing
  488. is coming out, he put his hand, he heard
  489. like there's something loose. So he
  490. touched it and it was a piece of skin.
  491. A piece of a dead goat skin
  492. was left there. God knows a wolf ate a
  493. goat and that's what's left. He said, "I
  494. was the happiest man alive. I took that
  495. piece, I stopped using the bathroom, put
  496. it back my clothes and ran home. I
  497. boiled boiled water and I cleansed it,
  498. then I boiled water again and I made
  499. soup and I ate it for dinner."
  500. That's how bad was the siege, embargo,
  501. and sanction. 3 years. What happened?
  502. Look at this zulm. When the people of
  503. Iraq went through sanctions for 10
  504. years, you Some of you were not born.
  505. Because it went from 1991 to the year
  506. 2000, I guess most of you were not born
  507. then. Do you know how many people died?
  508. Do you know how many children died in
  509. Iraq?
  510. Just so that you know,
  511. like I don't understand people. Who
  512. knows?
  513. 500,000
  514. children died because of the lack of
  515. vaccine from one side and the lack of
  516. what? Of food from the other side.
  517. Sisters, brothers,
  518. I think there's about 100,000 people
  519. dead after 1 year of bombardment.
  520. 500,000,
  521. not adults, not women, children,
  522. children.
  523. And when Madeleine Albright, the
  524. Secretary of State, was asked, and go to
  525. YouTube and watch that clip, the lady,
  526. the journalist, is asking her, "Was it
  527. worth it to put sanctions on Saddam
  528. Hussein that didn't do anything to
  529. Saddam Hussein and kill half a million
  530. children?" She said, "Yes, it was worth
  531. it."
  532. Guys, please, this is not
  533. 200 years ago. I'm talking about the
  534. year 2000. This interview happened in
  535. 2003. Maybe some of you was already born
  536. by then.
  537. This is not long ago.
  538. So, this is what we're dealing with,
  539. injustice. Do you know how many babies
  540. died from Bani Hashim and from Quraysh
  541. from the Muslims because they couldn't
  542. survive? The mother doesn't have a milk
  543. and the baby died. Who ended up dying
  544. because of malnutrition after 3 years?
  545. Abu Talib
  546. Abu Talib and Khadija radiyallahu ta'ala
  547. anha.
  548. The external support of the Prophet
  549. Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam and the
  550. internal support. Khadija was 65 years
  551. old.
  552. Khadija was the reason why most of
  553. Muslims and this did not die because of
  554. that she used to use her tribe cuz
  555. Khadija bint Khuwaylid
  556. is from a different tribe than
  557. Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.
  558. So, her tribe used to smuggle.
  559. She used her money and the Muslims and
  560. Bani Hashim survived because of Khadija.
  561. She herself was malnutrition. My dear
  562. brothers and sisters,
  563. Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Alihi
  564. Wasallam, after 3 years, he lost Abu
  565. Talib, lost Khadija, and it was called
  566. the year of sadness cuz it was one death
  567. and after 6 months, one death. So, he
  568. barely he recovered from the first
  569. death, he was hit. So, it was called the
  570. year of sadness.
  571. And after that, he went to Ta'if and he
  572. got stoned in Ta'if.
  573. And after that, he came back to Mecca
  574. and he got humiliated in Mecca. When Abu
  575. Talib died, they started spitting on the
  576. Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.
  577. When he makes sujud, they take the dirt
  578. and put it on the head of the Prophet
  579. Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam. When he
  580. makes sujud, they slaughter a camel for
  581. the idols, take the intestines of the
  582. camel,
  583. which is must be like 200 kilo or
  584. something, right? Cuz the camel is 1,000
  585. kilos, 1,000 lb plus, 2,000 lb. Take it,
  586. put it on the head. It was so heavy,
  587. Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam
  588. couldn't lift up his head. There was no
  589. one to help him. Guess who came and
  590. removed this and slid it off him.
  591. And started putting the water on his
  592. head and combing his hair Sallallahu
  593. Alaihi Wasallam. And she used and she
  594. told him, "Dear father, they did not
  595. dare to do this to you when Abu Talib
  596. was alive." It was Fatima, his daughter,
  597. the only one because the Arabs at least
  598. had some
  599. um
  600. shame on them, not like the Israeli
  601. soldiers today.
  602. They wouldn't attack a woman.
  603. They would leave her alone. So, she said
  604. and she and she was combing with a comb
  605. the clots of blood. You know that the
  606. intestines? And she was helping her
  607. father and saying, "My father, they
  608. didn't dare to do this to you when your
  609. uncle Abu Talib was alive." Rasulullah
  610. Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam looked in her
  611. face and said, "Ya Fatima, inna Allah
  612. nasiru abaki."
  613. Allah will give victory to your father.
  614. Worry not.
  615. And he was tense when he said that
  616. Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Alihi Wasallam.
  617. My dear brothers and sisters, if you
  618. don't know this, if you don't process
  619. this in your head, then you process the
  620. Battle of Badr, then you process the
  621. Battle of Uhud and killing Hamza and
  622. tearing him apart and taking his liver
  623. and you don't process the Battle of the
  624. Ditch.
  625. You If you don't process that, you will
  626. not appreciate that when Rasulullah
  627. Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Alihi Wasallam went
  628. to Mecca
  629. and conquered Mecca, that everybody in
  630. Mecca was certain, stressed that
  631. Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam
  632. will do something to them. They didn't
  633. know, but they had hope and fear.
  634. And when Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wa
  635. Alihi Wasallam said, "Go, for you are
  636. free." Did not demand their conversion,
  637. did not force them to convert, did not
  638. punish them, did not
  639. take revenge. On the contrary, in the
  640. next year, when Khutbat Hajjatul Wada'a
  641. came,
  642. he said,
  643. "I I have no revenge. The first revenge
  644. that I take is the revenge of my uncle
  645. Al-Harith. And the first riba that I put
  646. away is the riba of my other uncle
  647. Al-Abbas." Al-Harith was the son It was
  648. a cousin of the Prophet Sallallahu
  649. Alaihi Wasallam.
  650. Uh
  651. and he was killed and they were seeking
  652. revenge to kill the one who killed him.
  653. He said, "We don't have We have the rule
  654. of law. We don't have revenge system
  655. anymore. We have the rule of law." So,
  656. if you don't go through the pain and you
  657. scan the seerah, you will not appreciate
  658. what happened. You will not appreciate
  659. that you make a treaty.
  660. There was 14 Jewish tribes in Medina.
  661. Three out of the 14 broke the treaty.
  662. The others did not break it. Rasulullah
  663. Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam did not touch
  664. them, did not fight them. He just only
  665. fought the one who broke the treaty and
  666. almost wiped out Muslims. Muslims built
  667. the ditch in front.
  668. Uh and gave their back to the three
  669. Jewish tribes that they will protect
  670. them because they had a treaty to
  671. protect Medina.
  672. And when these people when these people
  673. uh broke the treaty and and and and and
  674. the Muslims like was under the most
  675. stress because they thought khalas. They
  676. thought what's happening in Gaza now is
  677. going to happen to them. They thought
  678. that the mushrikin are going to get with
  679. the Jews who
  680. broke the treaty
  681. uh and and wipe out all the women and
  682. children and attack them from the back.
  683. So, while they are protecting
  684. Al-Khandaq, the ditch, they were going
  685. to get attacked from the back. It was
  686. only by the grace of Allah and the
  687. courage of Safiyyah bint Abdul Muttalib,
  688. the aunt of the Prophet Sallallahu
  689. Alaihi Wasallam, she started noticing
  690. that the Jewish is preparing an army
  691. attacking Medina from the back. What did
  692. she do? She told them, "It looks like
  693. we're going to get attacked from the
  694. back." She made all the women and
  695. children wear the uh war outfit because
  696. every warrior had two outfits. You know,
  697. if one breaks. So, she they wore and
  698. they stood on the roofs of the buildings
  699. and they gave the impression that there
  700. is an army protecting the Medina from
  701. behind. Safiyyah bint Abdul Muttalib.
  702. This Safiyyah, the Jews sent one person
  703. to check, "Are these women and children
  704. we cannot see? Or this is the real army
  705. or pretending army?" So, they sent one
  706. soldier.
  707. So, what did she do? She realized where
  708. he's going. She got into the thing,
  709. brought a big log
  710. of like a tree log, right? Uh
  711. and she waited behind the door. That
  712. Jewish soldier entered the door and she
  713. hit him with the log and he dropped dead
  714. cuz it fell on his back.
  715. When the Jews saw that, they said,
  716. "These are soldiers, not women and
  717. children." One woman saved the Muslims
  718. from the back, a warrior woman. How many
  719. times have you heard the story? We don't
  720. tell our own stories. We know Mulan.
  721. But Khawlah bint al-Azwar, nobody knows.
  722. Nusaybah bint Ka'b, she used to fight
  723. with Khalid ibn al-Walid, she fought the
  724. Persians and the Romans, nobody knows.
  725. Safiyyah, Safiyyah is the mother of
  726. Az-Zubayr ibn al-Awwam. Safiyyah had her
  727. own method. We don't agree with it
  728. today, but at that time, you know, they
  729. grew up in the desert. So, she used to
  730. beat her son Az-Zubayr ibn al-Awwam so
  731. hard that his uncle, his dad's brother,
  732. his dad, Al-Awwam, died. So, he grew up
  733. yatim.
  734. The brother of Al-Awwam, Nawfal. Who's
  735. the brother of Nawfal? Khuwaylid.
  736. Khadija bint Khuwaylid, Az-Zubayr is her
  737. nephew. So, his mother, Safiyyah bint
  738. Abdul Muttalib, she used to beat him
  739. after his dad. So, his uncle, his uncle,
  740. the brother of
  741. yani the uncle of Khadija, said, "Can
  742. you stop beating the kid? You beat him
  743. like you hate him." She said, "No, he
  744. knows that I love him, but I beat him to
  745. become a warrior."
  746. And she started saying poem.
  747. Very nice poem. So, he said, "Can you
  748. stop saying poem? I'm going to stop. Can
  749. you just stop saying your poem? Enough.
  750. I got the point." Subhanallah, because
  751. the intention of the mother was good and
  752. she didn't beat him with hate, but she
  753. like you are a He grew up to become
  754. Az-Zubayr ibn al-Awwam, one of the most
  755. courageous. When you talk about the
  756. three most courageous people in Arabia,
  757. you have Sayyidna Ali ibn Abi Talib,
  758. Khalid ibn al-Walid, and Az-Zubayr ibn
  759. al-Awwam, the most three courageous
  760. three soldiers and warriors and knights
  761. in Mecca. My dear brothers and sisters,
  762. when you see this
  763. and you see how Rasulullah Sallallahu
  764. Alaihi Wa Alihi Wasallam reacted, let me
  765. share with you two stories
  766. of two Jewish men came to the Prophet
  767. Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam
  768. and said to him, one said,
  769. "I come to you
  770. because you say you are the messenger of
  771. God.
  772. One of your companions took money from
  773. me and he never returned it."
  774. So, the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi
  775. Wasallam called that companion.
  776. He said, "Did you take money from him?"
  777. He said, "Yes." "How much did you take?"
  778. He said, "Four dirham." He said, "Okay."
  779. That's exactly what he said. So, he His
  780. statement is correct. Give him back his
  781. money. He said, "Ya Rasulullah, I don't
  782. have money."
  783. He said, second time, "Give him back his
  784. money." He said, "Ya Rasulullah, can I
  785. just wait? I don't have money right now.
  786. I'll give it back to him." The problem
  787. is he didn't tell the guy wait.
  788. He denied him and Rasulullah didn't like
  789. that. So, he told him for a third time,
  790. "Give the man back his money." So, he
  791. took the money and he gave him back his
  792. money sallallahu alayhi wasallam because
  793. the Sahaba knows if Rasulullah repeats
  794. something three times, they will not
  795. argue with him sallallahu alayhi wa
  796. alihi wasallam.
  797. A second incident, a Jewish man came to
  798. the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam
  799. and said, "Look." What? He said, "I lost
  800. my tooth." He said, "Why?" He said,
  801. "Because one of your followers smacked
  802. me so hard, he knocked a tooth out." He
  803. said, "La hawla wala quwwata illa
  804. billah." "Bring him." So, they brought
  805. the Sahabi. "Why did you smack the guy?"
  806. He said, "Ya Rasulullah,
  807. he swore in the middle of the market, he
  808. said he said,
  809. "I swear by Moses, the best of Allah's
  810. creation,
  811. and you are still living between us."
  812. And he's calling Moses the best of
  813. Allah's creation. You are the best of
  814. Allah's creation.
  815. You know, if Rasulullah was a centric,
  816. you know, self-centered,
  817. he said Rasulullah got upset,
  818. but not for what you think. He said,
  819. "And you smacked the man?
  820. Don't ever
  821. prefer me over Moses and don't ever
  822. prefer one prophet over the other. Allah
  823. Azzawajal and Rasulullah went on a on a
  824. on a statement of stating the goodness
  825. of every prophet and messenger
  826. sallallahu alayhi wa alihi wasallam so
  827. that he doesn't create that. These are
  828. the Jews that broke the treaty. And what
  829. did Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi
  830. wasallam do?
  831. Because after the battle of Khaybar,
  832. Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam
  833. did not want a bad blood to stay between
  834. the Muslims and the Jews. So, what did
  835. he do? He married Safiyyah.
  836. You know, at war, they was they used to
  837. capture the the
  838. the the warriors and they would capture
  839. and take them as uh uh
  840. uh what we call like uh spoils of war.
  841. Everything the Muslims took from the
  842. Jewish tribes, they returned and the
  843. Muslims said when they knew Rasulullah
  844. married Safiyyah, "Look how Rasulullah
  845. solved the problem." They said, "These
  846. are the in-laws of Rasulullah sallallahu
  847. alayhi wasallam. We cannot We cannot
  848. have a prisoner that is the in-law of
  849. Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam."
  850. So, what when we talk about the
  851. prophetic justice, the prophetic justice
  852. uh went uh both ways, whether the one
  853. who committed the injustice was a Muslim
  854. or was a non-Muslim. Rasulullah applied
  855. the same principle. I want to end with
  856. this.
  857. Uh this is ayah from the Quran.
  858. Um this is uh
  859. uh alhamdulillah Surat An-Nahl.
  860. And I'm reading from ayah number 89.
  861. So, Allah Azzawajal starts the ayah by
  862. saying audhu billahi minash shaytanir
  863. rajim wa yawma nab'athu fi kulli ummatin
  864. shahidan alayhim minhum wa sayhim. On
  865. the day of judgment,
  866. we will send
  867. of every ummah of every nation a witness
  868. from them
  869. against them.
  870. Yani, that says if they did good, he
  871. will say they did good. But Allah will
  872. not choose a witness
  873. like let's say this generation.
  874. Let's say the ummah of Berkeley.
  875. Allah will bring someone from Berkeley
  876. that Berkeley used to know and respect
  877. and understand and and Allah will ask
  878. him, "What did this nation do?"
  879. Yani, on the day of judgment, it's a
  880. court.
  881. And you know, it's interesting. Allah
  882. would not take even though Allah knows,
  883. but Allah as a judge on the day of
  884. judgment does not use his knowledge as a
  885. proof.
  886. He He pulls witnesses.
  887. Imagine Allah ask Nuh on the day of
  888. judgment, "Nuh, I sent you as a
  889. prophet."
  890. Nuh is standing here, his ummah standing
  891. there.
  892. "Did you convey the message?" He said,
  893. "Ya Allah, 950 years,
  894. they didn't listen." So, Allah asked the
  895. people of Nuh, "Did Nuh convey the
  896. message?" They said, "No, he didn't.
  897. We He didn't convey your me Ya Allah, we
  898. don't know." They were They're lying
  899. thinking maybe they we can get away with
  900. it on the day of judgment. So, Allah
  901. asked, "Ya Nuh, do you have witnesses?
  902. Do you have witnesses? This is a court.
  903. Where are your witnesses?" He said,
  904. "Yes, ya Allah, I have witnesses." He
  905. said, "Who are your witnesses?" He says,
  906. "The ummah of Muhammad sallallahu alayhi
  907. wa alihi wasallam." So, we get called to
  908. the stand to the witnesses stand. And
  909. Allah asked the ummah of Muhammad, "Do
  910. you witness that Nuh conveyed the
  911. message?"
  912. And the ummah of Muhammad says, "Yes, ya
  913. Allah, we we witness that Nuh So, Allah
  914. tells them, "And how do you bear
  915. witness? Why? You did not witness. You
  916. did not see it." They said, "Yes, ya
  917. Allah, we read your book and in your
  918. book, you said that he conveyed the
  919. message and you don't lie, ya Allah."
  920. So, based on your word, we are
  921. witnesses. So, Allah accept us as
  922. witnesses for Prophet Nuh alayhi
  923. wasallam. So, imagine on the day of
  924. judgment, the divine justice. You know,
  925. one of the names of Allah is Al-Adl and
  926. Al-Qist.
  927. Al-Adl and Al-Muqsit.
  928. So,
  929. what's the difference between Al-Adl and
  930. Al-Qist?
  931. Both are mentioned in the Quran. Very
  932. interesting.
  933. Al-Adl
  934. is when we talk about justice that
  935. everyone gets the same.
  936. Everyone is the same under the law.
  937. That's justice.
  938. What is Al-Qist? When you give everyone
  939. their due
  940. right.
  941. That cannot be everyone gets the same.
  942. So, for example,
  943. we create a a what do they call
  944. disability ramp so that the one with a
  945. wheelchair can get in.
  946. Isn't that easier?
  947. Like why Why do I have to go up the
  948. stairs and he can go on the ramp? Isn't
  949. that discrimination? Isn't that giving
  950. him more? Doesn't that cost money? Yes.
  951. But that's not justice. That's fairness.
  952. So, there's two names in Arabic and
  953. they're both the names of Allah, Al-Adl
  954. and Al-Muqsit. What's the difference?
  955. The just and the fair. You need them
  956. both.
  957. To be just, people think it's justice,
  958. everyone gets the same. Do you know who
  959. did that? Communists.
  960. You know, Marxism, everybody is no
  961. business owner, no business worker,
  962. everybody is a worker. They destroyed
  963. their own country and the country
  964. collapsed because they mixed between
  965. justice
  966. and fairness.
  967. Leninism
  968. and Marxism just missed this point and
  969. Russians masakin, really I feel sorry
  970. for Russians. They had to suffer for a
  971. long time. You know, the Russians,
  972. between the First World War and Second
  973. World War, 33 million died defending
  974. their country. Just so that you know,
  975. you know, people are dying in Gaza, but
  976. it takes it takes effort. 33 million
  977. died defending Russia.
  978. First World War, Second World War. After
  979. we're done with that, Joseph Stalin came
  980. to them. He went crazy.
  981. How many did Joseph Stalin kill? 19
  982. million. Can someone add 33 + 19?
  983. 52.
  984. 52 million people died because of
  985. because of
  986. human
  987. you know, that's what happened. There is
  988. a book that I advise you all to read.
  989. This book
  990. I read this when I was 17.
  991. I was in Jordan. If you ask me in
  992. Jordan,
  993. what's the name of the scholars of
  994. Jordan when I was 17, I'll name you one
  995. or two, but I didn't know the names of
  996. the rest of scholars.
  997. But I knew the name of this Indian
  998. scholar
  999. from India.
1000. His name is Abul Hasan Ali Nadwi.
1001. Abul Hasan Ali Nadwi wrote a book that I
1002. read when I was 17. It affected the rest
  1003. of my life.
1004. It gave me a world perspective that I
1005. think each and every one of you need to
1006. have. He wrote a book. What's the name
1007. of the book? What did the world lose
1008. due to the declination declination of
  1009. Muslims?
1010. When Muslims have no more khilafah and
  1011. they're not in charge anymore, they're
1012. not leading the world, what did the
1013. world lose? And he started writing and
1014. he named First World War, Second World
1015. War and all the things and the in un
1016. unfairness and the injustice in every
1017. country that used to have Islam and now
1018. it doesn't. And how Muslims give up
1019. their own faith because my dear brothers
  1020. and sisters,
1021. what we face today in the world is
  1022. twofold.
1023. Oppression and plotting from non-Muslims
1024. to Muslims over Muslims. And then
1025. oppression and plotting of Muslims on
  1026. Muslims.
1027. I'll share something with you.
1028. Historically, never ever did the enemy
1029. of Muslims was the cause of their defeat
1030. and finish them. It was never
1031. The enemies of Muslims never never came
1032. head to head with us. You can bring the
1033. Tatar, the Mongolians, we defeated them.
1034. Only only when the Muslims united
1035. together and they didn't work against
1036. each other. The reasons why
1037. the Mongolians and Genghis Khan was able
1038. to kill a million people in 1 month
  1039. in Baghdad,
1040. it's because the some people in Baghdad
1041. betrayed Baghdad and and opened the
1042. gates for the Mongolians to come.
1043. If a Muslim does not betray a Muslim,
  1044. never in a battle a non-Muslim will beat
1045. a Muslim. Are you with me?
1046. Zero worry that the enemies of Islam
1047. will destroy us. They will only be able
1048. to destroy us if we plot against each
1049. other and betray one another. That's
1050. when we're going to pay the price. And
1051. what you see today, not because someone
1052. has nuclear bomb and the other doesn't.
1053. Someone has power and the other doesn't.
1054. No, no, no. It's because we are
1055. betraying each other, stabbing each
  1056. other in the back.
1057. And it's insane. Yeah, I mean, at least
  1058. what we call a
1059. a light of hope from Bangladesh when the
1060. students went out and kicked this, you
1061. know, this corrupt government out of
1062. position and brought you any a shout out
1063. of, you know, appreciation to
1064. Bangladesh, right? You know, subhan
  1065. Allah.
1066. May Allah subhana wa ta'ala reward these
1067. students who put their blood and and and
1068. sweat on the line. But
1069. that's why when when when we're talking
1070. about you, we are here in UC Berkeley.
1071. The world thinks you're the smartest.
1072. I'm not sure about that, but let's go
  1073. with the world, okay?
1074. The world think you are the the smartest
1075. and the greatest. And you're the
1076. smartest and the greatest Muslims among
  1077. the Muslim community.
1078. If you understand this historical
  1079. context,
1080. believe me, it takes only a small number
  1081. of people
1082. to to change the world. To better or to
  1083. worst.
  1084. 27 people.
1085. 21 men and six women are the founders
1086. and the hard working of the Zionist
1087. movement that worked with Theodor Herzl
  1088. and Chaim Weizmann.
1089. 27 people. Six women and 21 men.
1090. They they put their heart into it. They
1091. put their mind into it. Today is what
1092. you see. So a small number of people can
1093. make the world an amazing place like
  1094. Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam
1095. and the small number of Sahaba, or they
1096. can make the world a miserable place.
1097. Like one or two people like Lenin and
1098. Marx and and then, you know,
1099. you know, Joseph Stalin, they they they
1100. they can flip the world to worst or to
  1101. better.
1102. Allah sends one messenger, he changes
  1103. the world.
1104. Two messengers, Musa wa Harun.
1105. One time Allah told us he sent three
  1106. messengers.
1107. One person can change the world. Two
1108. people can change the world. Three
1109. people can change the world if they have
  1110. the right team.
1111. So at this point we have to be thinking,
1112. turn this thought of justice into
1113. organization, action. How can we benefit
1114. our countries? How can we benefit this
1115. country and change it to a better place?
1116. Inspire us to be like his messenger
