1 moment mention “Mercy”:

  1. Salaam 'Alaikum
  2. and welcome back to Ramadan series "As-Sirat al-Mustaqim"
  3. Yesterday we covered: (Except those who have faith)
  4. Today we cover: (And do good deeds)
  5. But if you take these two together: (Except those who have faith, do good)
  6. meaning except those who believe and they do good deeds.
  7. This sentence, this expression is mentioned over 52 times in The Noble Quran
  8. It is the hallmark of Islam.
  9. It represents the personality of Islam.
  10. Islam is not the type of religion in which
  11. it only asks you to believe a set of beliefs,
  12. and if you believe that, you're fine.
  13. No, you need action with that faith.
  14. Otherwise, it's a stagnant, dead action
  15. Notice the type of religion
  16. that is telling you it's all about your actions,
  17. where there's no place for Iman and faith.
  18. This: (Except those who have faith, do good) again is mentioned
  19. in the plural sense because teamwork makes the dream work.
  20. This sentence: (Except those who have faith, do good)
  21. (Do good deeds) is a general expression
  22. meaning, in this expression: (And those who do good, righteous
  23. deeds) it's not specified which deeds are we talking about?
  24. Are we talking about fulfilling the five pillars of Islam?
  25. Are we talking about feeding the poor, helping the old?
  26. What are we talking about?
  27. It's open ended, which makes Islam accommodate
  28. and the Quran accommodates ages and ages to come.
  29. Just 15 years ago, we didn't have these smartphones.
  30. Now, how many good deeds are we doing on our smartphones?
  31. For those who use it wisely, obviously.
  32. If you look at that, it makes you love the Quran.
  33. How certain expressions are general to accommodate
  34. the time and space that will come later on?
  35. (Except those who have faith, do good)
  36. (Do good deeds)
  37. is what translates faith into action.
  38. What good is faith if it's only in the hearts of the people
  39. but it does not translate on their actions?
  40. And what do we mean by action? In Islam and in the The Noble Quran
  41. Allah opens our eyes that certain action
  42. is inner and certain action is outer.
  43. The inner action.
  44. There's something called "The actions of the hearts"
  45. Subhanallah, when our Prophet PBUH say:
  46. "You will not attain the perfection of faith until you love for others
  47. what you love for yourself, for your Muslim
  48. brother and sister, what you love for yourself"
  49. That's an action.
  50. But it is inside. It's an inner action.
  51. That inner action translates into an outer action.
  52. The actions of the hearts are something that we have not been talking about a lot
  53. in our lectures and in our explanations of Islam,
  54. because it's like the hidden elements.
  55. Our scholars in the past wrote so much about The actions of the hearts
  56. and the best action of the heart
  57. is something related to action.
  58. The outer action. What is that?
  59. It is sincerity, Al-Ikhlas
  60. They say for an action to be accepted
  61. by Allah SWT, it has to fulfill two conditions.
  62. Condition number 1, that it's sincere for Allah
  63. You're not doing it with an ulterior motive, you know,
  64. and you're doing for a different reason.
  65. And number 2, that when you do the action, you try your best
  66. to follow the example of the Prophet PBUH
  67. This world of action makes the believer
  68. grounded in reality.
  69. We as Muslims are not detached from reality.
  70. If you remember when we talked about the goals,
  71. when we talked about that Allah put to us on this planet
  72. as part of a certain scheme, to speak the truth
  73. and tell people about the truth, to establish justice,
  74. to establish mercy, and to establish excellence, especially moral excellence.
  75. These things are grounded in reality.
  76. They're not in the abstract, just dreaming and wishing.
  77. The Prophet PBUH said:
  78. Faith is not by wishing.
  79. It is that which settled in your heart, and was confirmed with action"
  80. (Except those who have faith and do good)
  81. this world of action is what we do now in Ramadan.
  82. We're reading Quran, giving charity, making Dua's, making Dhikr,
  83. feeding the poor,
  84. you know. Being grounded in action is something that is required
  85. of the believer and the more you do, the better it is.
  86. My dear brothers and sisters,
  87. Allah SWT has told us about the reward.
  88. I also want to add, the difference between one person
  89. doing a good deed and a group of people doing good deed, is the difference between
  90. a one-time action and an impactful chain of actions
  91. If you're passing by driving
  92. and you find a homeless person, so you go buy him food
  93. or you take your own lunch and give it to him.
  94. Now, you did a good deed.
  95. But it is a one-time and one-place.
  96. But if you bring a group of people and you make an organization
  97. and you look for the homeless people, you first feed them,
  98. then you work on their education.
  99. You try to help them find a job so that they will not be homeless anymore.
  100. This is what we call impactful action.
  101. That's why Allah in Surah Al-Asr
  102. asks us an Ummah to work together to do good deeds.
  103. Finally, the reward of good deeds
  104. is mentioned all over the Quran
  105. May Allah accept from us
  106. our deeds that we do on a daily basis, especially in Ramadan.
  107. But if you read a small Surah in Juzu Amma, Surah Al-Bayyinah
  108. You will find that at the end of it, Allah says:
  109. (Those who believe and do good deeds,
  110. they are the best of mankind)
  111. Oh Allah! You know
  112. Subhanallah, good deeds need faith,
  113. and faith needs good deeds.
  114. And, what did Allah say about them?
  115. (Their reward at their Lord,
  116. Gardens of Eden, beneath which rivers are flowing)
  117. Why?
  118. (Allah is pleased with them
  119. and they are pleased with Allah)
  120. (That is for the one that fears His Lord)
  121. Don't you want Allah to be pleased with you?
  122. I want you to think today about a good deed that you've never done before.
  123. Go home and do it.
  124. and Insha'Allah, inform us on the chat.
  125. What was the good deed that you didn't do
  126. and you decided to do Insha'Allah? So that we can learn from each other.
  127. May Allah accept from us all.
  128. Wa Assalaamu 'Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah
