Perseverance on the Path | Al-Sirat Al-Mustaqeem EP.29 | A Journey With Shaykh Alauddin ElBakri
Shaykh Alauddin ElBakri
- Assalaamu 'Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh
- and welcome back to Tawasaw Ramadan series, author
- "As-Sirat al-Mustaqim"
- Yesterday, we covered: (And urge each other to the truth)
- Omar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased of him, said something very beautiful.
- He said: "May Allah reward someone who gifted us our mistakes
- and our wrongdoings"
- He considered when someone comes and advice him that
- he actually gave him a gift.
- If we can think like that, then we will be stronger and stronger
- because every time someone corrects you, you'll become better
- and a better believer Insha'Allah Ta'ala
- Today, Allah repeats the same word:
- (And urge each other to perseverance)
- Meaning,
- it could have been perfectly okay in Arabic
- if Allah said: (And urge each other to the truth and perseverance)
- but Allah said: (And urge each other to the truth, and urge each other to perseverance)
- because the word "Tawasaw/Urge" is needed in this context
- that you give advice to your believing brothers and sisters
- with sincerity and care and support,
- and you accept advice from them when they advise you.
- Alhamdulillah Rabb Alameen
- (And urge each other to perseverance)
- when we hear the word "Sabr" patience, I grew up knowing
- that patience is when something bad happens, and you sit down
- and you wait for it to go away and for things to get better.
- But little did I know that actually the word patience in Arabic
- it means: To hold on to something or hold off something.
- So, for example, to hold on
- to what Allah the Mighty and Majestic has told you to do, Allah asked us
- to have certain pillars of faith and certain pillars of action.
- This is called: Patience with the obedience of Allah
- To be consists and persistent
- with the obedience of Allah. The word patience
- in its basic meaning, it means to be consistent, persistent,
- hold on to something and be committed to it.
- Patience, (And urge each other to perseverance)
- The first patience that we need, is to be consistent
- and persistent with our practice of our religion.
- What Allah told us to do. That's called: Patience with the obedience of Allah
- The second type of patience is when Allah SWT told us
- to hold off certain things.
- These things are called: Haram.
- It starts from the highest, Shirk, may Allah SWT
- keep us away from Shirk from Kufr.
- And then the major sins, the minor sins. Disbelief,
- associating partners with Allah, major sins, minor sins.
- Allah told us to stay away from that.
- Everyday you need to stay away from alcohol, from drugs,
- from Zena , whether the Zena of the eyes or of the ears
- or the actual, God forbid, fornication or adultery.
- Everyday you don't do haram, you have accomplished something big.
- People come to me and they say:
- We feel stagnant in our faith, like we feel like our faith is dying.
- I ask them: Are you praying five times a day? "Yes"
- Are you staying away from Haram every day? "Yes"
- Then Mashaa'Allah, every day you do that, you are winning.
- Don't let Satan make you doubt yourself.
- The third type of patience is when something bad happens.
- Tragic, "Mosiba"
- Allah calls it, a calamity,
- tragedy, that you hold on to your faith
- and you stay with Allah SWT and with your Iman, with your faith,
- just like our brothers and sisters again Gaza
- May Allah reward them, may Allah have mercy on those who passed away,
- accept them as martyrs, heal the sick, heal the wounded,
- and make their reality better every day.
- And may Allah give them better than what he has given us.
- Ameen Ya Rabb Alameen
- Look at them,
- when they were going through the tragedy and they still going through it,
- they say: "God suffices me, and He is the best disposer of affairs"
- "Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed, to Him we return"
- "There is no might nor power except with Allah"
- and they have lost everything
- This type of patience is that you trust Allah's judgment.
- You trust that Allah is not forsaking
- you, that Allah did not forget about you, that Allah cares about you,
- and that the fact that you're going through a test
- or trial or tribulation, does not mean you are getting punished,
- but rather you're getting purified and elevated.
- My dear brothers and sisters, the fourth type of patience
- is the highest type of patience, which is patience with Allah SWT
- is that when you grow in your faith so much, that you're no more
- look at what's happening.
- Maybe you're getting sick every day.
- Maybe you've tried ten businesses and you failed at them again and again.
- Maybe you got into so many relationships and they didn't work.
- You just don't look at the details anymore.
- You just living with Allah.
- What did Allah SWT say in Surah Al-Muddaththir?
- (And persevere for ˹the sake of˺ your Lord)
- In Surah Al-Qalam:
- (So be patient with your Lord’s decree)
- be consistent and patient with their destiny of your Lord
- In Surah Al-Muddaththir
- Allah the Mighty and Majestic tells us to be patient with Allah SWT. Meaning what?
- Meaning I am with Allah, I accept what Allah designs for me.
- Meaning if I still have Allah,
- I don't care if I lose everything else
- because Allah can give me back everything else.
- And this patience, my dear brothers, sisters, in this understanding.
- Now, you understand when Allah says:
- (And seek help through patience and prayer)
- (Surely Allah is with those who persevere)
- Seek the help of patience and prayers
- and people say: How are we going to seek the help of patience?
- I thought patience is just, you know, waiting.
- No, no, no.
- Patience means consistency and persistency, perseverance.
- And you keep on doing and holding to your faith.
- And that will change things.
- Nothing will stay the same.
- Everyone's reality will change.
- And the biggest change that will happen to all of us at
- the end, is to move on from this stage of life to the next one.
- Insha'Allah, Allah makes our hereafter better than our life.
- May Allah accept our Ramadan and our fasting
- May Allah accept from us all
- Wa Assalaamu 'Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah
