A State of Thankfulness | Your Relationship With Allah Ep.20 | Sh. Alauddin ElBakri | Ramadan Series
Shaykh Alauddin ElBakri
1 moment mention “patience”:
- last episode we spoke
- about consistency persistency
- perseverance and endurance today we will
- talk about shukur they always go hand in
- hand one to have thankfulness to Allah
- subhana wa ta'ala and the other one is
- to have endurance and perseverance with
- Allah subhah wa taala there's two words
- in the Quran that is mentioned to
- express thankfulness and gratitude one
- is mentioned in the first Ayah in
- alhamd all prais is due to Allah subhana
- wa tala what's the difference between
- alham and when you mention alham it
- could mean aukur or the other way around
- but specifically alham is bigger and
- wider if you use it alone it means I
- thank Allah for the good times and the
- hard times and the bad times because
- it's all perception good times is your
- perception of Good Times hard times and
- bad times is your perception maybe these
- hard times you're going through is the
- best news in your life that later on all
- of your success will be built on this
- hard moment that you don't like now so
- Allah subhana tala is asking us to do
- something interesting when you have good
- times because you perceive it's good
- hold on to your faith have sa when you
- have difficult
- times think beyond the moment and have
- shuk be thankful to Allah it's
- counterintuitive we think we should use
- patience with bad times and thankfulness
- with good times Allah invites us for a
- higher standard when it is good times
- hold on persevere don't lose it don't
- lose your Iman don't get carried away
- with Dunya when you have hard times open
- your eyes this might be the best thing
- that ever happened to you so you become
- thankful so like literally switching the
- roles shuk to Allah subhana tala is when
- something is clear that it's a blessing
- and you say but in general the word and
- Sh also inside it means
- Al may Allah grant us
- both when you are thankful to Allah how
- do we become thankful to Allah first
- with your tongue but with your tongue
- your tongue shall not express something
- that is not in your heart so actually
- first we start with the heart the tongue
- overflows with what is in the heart
- so what is in your heart you see to be
- thankful to Allah and grateful you
- should be positive you should have a
- state of you know Thinking Beyond the
- event as I have been saying this
- positivity will Propel you to be
- grateful and thankful to Allah subhana
- wa ta'ala it starts in the
- heart Allah is pleased with them and
- they are pleased with Allah your heart
- is pleased with Allah and and no matter
- what life throws at you your heart is
- pleased with Allah your mind your soul
- state of positivity that now overflows
- it overflows on your words so when you
- say alhamdulillah you say what you mean
- you mean what you say thank Allah for
- everything that I'm going through so
- then it you see how much the prophet
- sallallahu alaihi wasallam teach us to
- be thankful to ground Us in this state
- of positivity after every Salah we say
- alhamdulillah 33 times that if you you
- know if you're not going to get one time
- two times three times how about 33 times
- you should definitely get this idea of
- shukur after saying alhamdulillah 33
- times our Prophet sallallahu alaihi
- wasallam shows us that shukur is a state
- of heart it's a state of tongue it
- overflows on the actions to be thankful
- and grateful to someone is to show it in
- action not lip service oh thank you for
- what you have done for me but when they
- need you you're never there for them
- these are cheap words lip service as a
- Believer you turn the state of being of
- gratitude to words and then to actions
- Subhan Allah Allah wanted to put us back
- in our place in Al Quran I smile every
- time I read this Ayah
- in whosoever grateful to Allah he's only
- grateful to himself he's only thankful
- to himself meaning don't get into your
- head that oh Allah needs your attention
- or needs your thankfulness or any of
- that you are the beneficiary when you
- live in a positive state of mind and
- heart you are the beneficiary and guess
- what Allah tells us more he
- says and your lord has declared that if
- you are thankful to me I will give you
- more Subhan Allah this statement I will
- give you more has an implicit like imply
- promise inside it you can only have more
- and add if you keep what you have so
- let's say you're grateful for your
- health for Allah to give you more you
- should stay healthy and become more
- healthy so when Allah says if you're
- thankful to me I'll give you more it
- means I'll let you keep what you have
- and I'll give you more Subhan Allah this
- is so beautiful and this is the
- immediate reward of thankfulness you see
- when you are thankful to Allah you don't
- have to wait till you die and then
- resurrect on the day of judgment and
- then you go to Jenna then you see the
- reward you actually see it in this world
- this key this very easy key of having
- more through gratitude most people don't
- do it so Allah said in the
- Quran few of my servants are thankful so
- we really want to be part of this Elite
- few Club of people who are thankful to
- allaha
- grateful no matter what the Times Are
- Good Times Hard Times They always find
- it in themselves to say
- alhamd one of the things that really
- struck me hard after I read the whole
- Quran you know even at young age is that
- in the Quran Allah give us three
- examples of what happened when a person
- is not thankful you know there's a rule
- in the Quran if Allah tells you do
- something but he doesn't tell you what's
- the punishment if you don't do it or
- what's going to happen it is less
- then when Allah tells you do something
- and this is the consequence if you don't
- do it this could be the consequence or
- the punishment in the case of being
- thankful to Allah Allah give us the
- consequences on the level of the
- individuals on the level of the families
- and on the level of the Nations on the
- level of the individuals Allah told us
- the story
- of he
- was was from the people of Musa he was
- an Israelite but he was so rich the
- Pharaoh overlooked the fact that was
- from the Israelites because he was a
- sellout because he Associated himself
- with the Pharaoh because you know he he
- hung up with a rich people not with his
- own people and this man was so rich that
- Allah said that he kept his wealth in
- safes like rooms the rooms had keys the
- keys were so heavy for a group of
- muscular strong men to carry it imagine
- carrying the keys is hard for a group of
- men these Keys have are keys of doors
- doors of rooms rooms full of well of
- jewelry and gold and God knows what but
- he was so ungrateful to Allah and he was
- so boastful in front of the Israelites
- the Israelites had nothing they were
- slaves and he rubbed it in their faces
- and he you know he had far meaning I'll
- show you who boss I'll show you who's
- blessed you know I am special I am
- different Subhan Allah Allah made his
- house where the wealth is and all of
- these saves and him Allah made like a
- sinkhole so the Earth swallowed him and
- closed and people could see the effect
- of that like sinking and closing and
- they said yesterday they were wishing to
- be like him it's the same thing with
- human beings across when you see a rich
- people and rich person I wish I'm like
- him don't wish something that you don't
- know because the consequences is the
- earth swallowed him because he stood up
- with the Pharaoh instead of standing up
- with Moses he stood up with the one who
- was killing the babies and killing the
- the children instead of standing with
- the truth and supporting Moses Allah
- punished him Second Story in the Quran
- is when Allah mentioned it's in the
- second Surah revealed in the
- Quran Allah said there is a family the
- father had a farm he used to sell from
- the farm fruits and vegetables and he
- used to give poor people every day for
- for free he passed away his children had
- a meeting the night he died and they
- said our father did not have a proper
- business approach what is this business
- of giving charity every day how can we
- do that tomorrow we're going to close
- the farm we're not going to give the
- poor people any more starting tomorrow
- next day they went while they were
- sleeping that night Allah sent a tornado
- destroyed the farm next day when they
- went they found a destroyed Farm they
- did not even recognize that it was their
- Farm they all repented to Allah and
- Allah said that he replaced them with
- something better but the point is
- sometimes a whole family can go Rogue
- and go to the wrong side of history and
- and change the uh method of their
- forefathers the father was good but
- Allah rewarded him that when his
- children saw the farm they all woke up
- and repented to Allah out of reward to
- the father who raised these children
- children they learned the hard way very
- quickly same night and the third story
- in the Quran is a story of a Nation
- called Sab they were in Yemen and Allah
- described That civilization as the most
- flourishing you know Al Yen used to be
- called
- Al the happy Yemen because the whole
- world used to go there and like just to
- see the farms and how the fruits fall
- right from the trees Subhan Allah they
- were in the state of obedience to Allah
- so Allah gave them two gardens they
- built uh a
- dam when they changed their ways and
- went into mischief and into sinning and
- stopped giving the poor and changed
- their ways Allah sent against them a
- flood that flooded destroyed the dam
- that they built overflew and flooded the
- farms on the right and on the left and
- after having of every fruit that your
- heart would wish to have they had
- nothing but little destroyed fruits it's
- fascinating how Allah gave us the
- consequences of being ungrateful on the
- level of the individual the level of the
- family and the level of the nation
- that's why we have to take this topic
- very seriously most of us don't even
- think about it you eat you don't even
- thank Allah subhana tala do you know
- what the prophet sallallahu alaihi
- wasallam said he said if a servant eats
- Allah loves a servant that eats food and
- he thanks Allah drinks water and he
- thanks Allah it's very simple not
- complicated and he said if a person eats
- and says alhamdulillah and the long
- version Allah will forgive all of your
- previous sins a Moment of clarity before
- you start you say you look at the food
- thank you Allah after you're done you
- say alhamdulillah that will give you a
- strong relationship with Allah it
- doesn't have to be like extraordinary as
- I said it's not complicated it's very
- simple we make it complicated and
- imagine you copy that with everything
- alhamdulillah for the car like when
- you're driving to work in the morning
- alhamdulillah for the car alhamdulillah
- I have a job alhamdulillah I have a
- family alhamdulillah thank God thank God
- thank God alhamdulillah oh my God things
- are going to keep on getting better
- inshallah tala and if hard times hit you
- you will also say alh
- because it might be the thing that
- changes your life to the best
