Hear And Obey | Al-Sirat Al-Mustaqeem EP.4 | A Journey With Shaykh Alauddin ElBakri
Shaykh Alauddin ElBakri
- Assalaamu 'Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh
- Welcome back to this Ramadan series
- As-Sirat al-Mustaqim "The Straight Path"
- In this first station that we're talking about the purpose of our lives.
- There is a natural sequence.
- If you know Allah, you will fall in love with Allah
- If you fall in love with Allah, you would want to have a relationship
- with Allah.
- We call that relationship: Worship between you and Allah.
- If you worship Allah, then you realize that you would need
- to submit and surrender and obey.
- You see, everything in As-Sirat al-Mustaqim "The Straight Path"
- stuck in depends on this step
- that at the end of the day, when Allah tells you to do something
- or not to do something, to engage in something or refrain from something,
- if you don't listen and obey, then nothing will work.
- And I see that in this journey, meeting many Muslims,
- they're wondering why Islam is not working for them
- when they actually are not listening to Allah.
- Do you know that in The Noble Quran,
- over 21 times, Allah gave us a straightforward command.
- Obey Allah and obey His messengers.
- So many times repeat it in the Quran.
- And then Allah SWT told us, Do not be like those who said,
- we heard, we listen, but they did not listen.
- "Do not be like those who say, “We hear,” but in fact they are not listening"
- don't be like those who said we listened, but they did not listen.
- You see the word "Listen" in Arabic "Sama'a"
- and in English, means to hear something,
- to understand it, but also to obey it.
- You say to your child: "Listen to me!"
- You don't mean you should hear me.
- You mean you should obey me.
- Now let's explore some of the reasons as why the human,
- even the believer, does not sometimes listen to Allah SWT
- The first reason is that the human imagines
- that whatever he's doing to obey Allah is for the benefit of Allah
- and for the sake of Allah, but not for his own benefit and his own sake.
- So the human translates in his head: "Oh Allah doesn't need me,
- so it's okay,
- I will disobey Him now, but later on I will obey Him"
- That's one of the whispers of Shaitan "Devil"
- The second reason why people don't obey Allah is because they think
- whatever else Allah is asking them to do well.
- Only pay off in the hereafter.
- Not in this world.
- When actually, Islam is designed for the human
- to benefit him and her in this world, in this existence.
- Before we talk about the grave, the Day of Judgment and heaven or hell.
- Islam is designed to benefit you here and now.
- The third reason why people don't listen to Allah
- is because they feel the pressure of the society and the environment,
- and they go for that pressure instead of going for the obedience of Allah.
- Thinking, that if I buckle under pressure and I do what people want me to do,
- people will be there for me when I need them.
- But actually, that never happens.
- The only one that will be there for you when you need Him is God.
- Almighty Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala
- The fourth reason that the human doesn't obey Allah is to please
- and satisfy himself or herself.
- That's what we call getting involved in self-worship.
- Allah mentioned that in the Quran.
- "Haven't you seen the one who took his own desires as his own God
- and he was misled even with knowledge?"
- Subhanallah “Glory be to Allah”
- So, instead of choosing yourself and to please yourself
- because you can't be there for yourself when you lose your health,
- when you lose all of your loved ones, when there is someone that you love
- that is falling sick, you cannot help them.
- But Allah can.
- You have to put it deep inside your consciousness
- that I am worshiping Allah and I am obeying Allah
- for my own instant benefit,
- for my own goodness and reward in this world
- and in the hereafter. Obeying Allah will pay off.
- Obeying Allah will give me eternity
- in Jannah "Heaven"
- Obeying Allah will bring me the peace, security, calmness,
- confidence, and knowing
- that if you are on the side of Allah, Allah is on your side,
- and if Allah is on your side, who can stand against you?
- And if Allah stands against you, because you made him
- your enemy with your evil deeds, who can stand with you?
- May Allah make us from those who love Him,
- know Him, worship Him and obey Him.
- Ameen Ya Rabb Alameen
