2 moments mention “Patience”:

  1. In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious
  2. , the Most Merciful. All praise is due
  3. to Allah. And peace and blessings be
  4. upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon
  5. his family, his companions, and those
  6. who followed him. O Allah, teach us
  7. what benefits us. And benefit us with
  8. what You have taught us. And increase
  9. us in knowledge. O Allah, show us the
  10. truth as truth, and enable us to follow
  11. it. And show us falsehood as falsehood,
  12. and enable us to avoid it. Make us
  13. among Your righteous, God-fearing, and
  14. truthful servants. And make us among
  15. Your grateful, patient, and sincere
  16. servants. And make us among the
  17. inheritors of the Garden of Bliss, by
  18. Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the
  19. merciful. O Allah, amen. Allah, may He
  20. be glorified and exalted. We praise Him
  21. . We seek His help. We seek His
  22. guidance. We seek His forgiveness. May
  23. the peace and blessings of Allah be
  24. upon him and his family. We praise Him.
  25. We seek His help. We seek His guidance.
  26. We seek His forgiveness. Peace and
  27. blessings be upon him. Surah Al-Fatihah
  28. . We praise Him. All praise is due to
  29. Allah, Lord of the worlds. You alone we
  30. worship, and You alone we ask for help.
  31. We seek His help. Number two. And we
  32. seek His guidance; guide us to the
  33. straight path. And we seek His
  34. forgiveness; not of those who are
  35. astray. Amen. Surah Al-Fatihah. Hadith.
  36. Al-Fatihah. As Allah wills (Masha Allah
  37. ). need for surveys needed topics. so
  38. starting today. because there are
  39. introductions and mindsets. and then
  40. there are technical steps that need to
  41. be taken. So when we tackle the topic
  42. of marriage, uh, and the topic of our
  43. , you know, our topic title is money
  44. or marriage, right? Uh, so basically
  45. career or family, in other words. So
  46. then we have to talk about the mindset
  47. for that. R (or: Lord). Peace and
  48. blessings be upon him. number. think
  49. about how to go to marry. how there is
  50. the rule and exception for us. we, not
  51. , you know, community have easy how to
  52. go as you Halal (lawful). Haram (
  53. prohibited). Haram (prohibited).
  54. Khalwah (seclusion). are with not even
  55. religiously brings about the damage
  56. that is done to women and to the girl
  57. is more than the damage done to the boy
  58. . on the ground reality. So then it
  59. becomes so much injustice and we have
  60. to address all of these things. I
  61. thought that to answer the topic
  62. without any ill. This can be the
  63. shortest lecture I can ever give you.
  64. Because asking questions from Hadith.
  65. So the thing about you. Question for
  66. men who have not been married before.
  67. Or they have been married but the
  68. marriage didn't last for long. So they
  69. are still in the beginning. They still
  70. have for all intents and purposes. They
  71. have not gotten married. Peace and
  72. blessings be upon him. number. So marry
  73. point man to get married so. So it's
  74. fun. The purpose of making is to get
  75. married. How much I enough daily life
  76. experience. Why make So first question,
  77. second question: Why do we get married?
  78. Which is another mindset. And I will
  79. tackle that in the second part of my
  80. speech. Because it is very important.
  81. And if I, forgive me, why do we get
  82. married? ask my mind is how do my life
  83. go from 13 to 18 let go, and by 18 to
  84. be more mature. But actually, science
  85. tells us that the brain finishes
  86. growing its frontal lobe at age 25.
  87. It's very interesting to me that the
  88. Prophet got married at 25. For Arabian
  89. society, he was at least 10 to 12 years
  90. late. So people got married at 15.
  91. That's late. 15 or 16 for a man. For a
  92. girl, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, or 11, it depends
  93. . Right after puberty, that's time for
  94. marriage. So someone that age would
  95. marry someone 14, 15, or 16 years old.
  96. The 11-year-old would marry at 16; you
  97. know, that's the range. That's the
  98. society. And interestingly, when you
  99. study American history up to 200 years
  100. ago, the age of marriage for girls was
  101. around 12 to 13 years. 167 years ago.
  102. 13 or 1400 years ago, where men and
  103. women reached puberty very early and
  104. reached growth. Don't. My. 11. And.
  105. Told me. One of the few things from my
  106. grandmother is her telling me about her
  107. marriage story. When she told the story
  108. , there was zero abuse. There was zero
  109. regret. There was zero, "oh my God,
  110. this." Long story short, I was so
  111. beautiful that they could not wait for
  112. me. So I got married at age 11.
  113. Literally, what I remember is my
  114. grandmother taking pride, saying, "Oh
  115. my God.""The girls that waited till 15
  116. or 16, they must have been ugly.""I was
  117. so pretty they had to pick me up at 11.
  118. " Right, that's the narrative that I
  119. remember from my grandmother. And I
  120. think she had her first child at age 13
  121. or 14, and apparently she had 11
  122. children, of which only five survived.
  123. So I have three uncles plus my dad,
  124. that's four. And one surviving aunt. So
  125. four and one, that's five out of 11.
  126. One died at age six months. One died at
  127. delivery. It turned out I had an aunt I
  128. only found out about when I was 30
  129. years old. She lived to age 11, had a
  130. kidney stone, and died because of that
  131. kidney stone. You know, because there
  132. was no medicine. Right. So that's the
  133. story. So the idea here is the Prophet
  134. got married at age 25. It's almost like
  135. , what is age 25? You know, talking
  136. about a Prophet for our times. That's
  137. you finishing college around 22 or 23,
  138. getting a job for a couple of years,
  139. and having enough savings to get
  140. married. It's. Like a modern marriage
  141. story. And then to add to, he gets
  142. married, his first marriage to a
  143. business woman who was 15 years older
  144. than him. Like to shatter all ideas
  145. about age. And oh my god, the wife
  146. cannot be older than the husband, etc,
  147. etc, etc So it's a beautiful example.
  148. The prophet was a great example. So
  149. when we look, O Allah. C. Allah said
  150. some angels have two wings, three wings
  151. , four wings. They don't have male and
  152. female. They don't eat they don't sleep
  153. . Pure energy. No need for none of that
  154. stuff. Are notice. Allah. Meaning.
  155. Muslim. And We have certainly honored
  156. the children of Adam. Allah. And We
  157. carried them on land and sea. People.
  158. And We provided for them from the good
  159. things. Meaning and We provided for
  160. them from the good things. And
  161. preferred them over much of what We
  162. have created, with definite preference.
  163. Meaning He preferred them. Over much of
  164. what We have created, with definite
  165. preference. Allah, Allah. Tr. Allah.
  166. Islam Allah. The believing men and
  167. believing women are allies of one
  168. another. Okay, they enjoin what is
  169. right. And forbid what is wrong. And
  170. establish prayer and give zakah. And
  171. obey Allah and His Messenger. Meaning
  172. by time. Indeed, mankind is in loss.
  173. Except for those who have believed and
  174. done righteous deeds. And advised each
  175. other to truth and advised each other
  176. to patience. They advised each other.
  177. So. this idea of marriage. doesn't
  178. matter. how I think. Allah. mentality
  179. is completely different than the
  180. approach of marriage that you and I
  181. have been subjugated to since our
  182. childhood. From Cinderella to Snow
  183. White to uh Pocahontas. You know they
  184. had to do something away from the white
  185. people after they grilled them and then
  186. they made a black Barbie right. So just
  187. to differentiate themselves from Frozen
  188. , right. So the idea from a child
  189. you're you. And that's it. So we have
  190. been. what is marriage to us; the
  191. approach of Western civilization to
  192. marriage is. I am how. and then we go
  193. for honeymoon. We don't have honeymoon
  194. culture. Our own. Prophet (peace be
  195. upon him) tradition. man if they are
  196. this is first marriage. There is one
  197. week that the husband has to make
  198. himself available to the wife. And the
  199. wife make herself available so it's
  200. like a week right. But the idea is why
  201. am i getting married. because i fall in
  202. love. And I want to feel the positive
  203. energy. And I want to feel the
  204. butterflies in my stomach. And I want
  205. to you know feel the connection. And I
  206. want to travel the world. And I want to
  207. go to to different restaurants together
  208. . And watch movies together. And sit at
  209. home and play games and board games
  210. together and travel the world. The
  211. project keeps on going. Me, I, me,
  212. myself, I, both of us, right. But even
  213. even that, both of us is, also becomes
  214. selfish and. That's why relationships
  215. don't last in this proposal. They don't
  216. last.
  302. الرسالة. So for example you
  303. receive a letter, it says from John
  304. Smith, your neighborhood insurance
  305. broker. What's this letter about?
  306. Insurance. What is the title of that
  307. letter, I mean? And then we click. And
  308. then we have chemistry. And we have all
  309. the right things. That's the one. Now
  310. um I will not you know you know this is
  311. not I think back home like my
  312. generation versus your generation. Even
  313. my generation, I grew up in the Muslim
  314. world, I, I, I, we had the same notion,
  315. right, on a lighter note. Right?
  316. Because the whole family makes a
  317. decision with you. You don't even go
  318. and talk to the girl. Because to
  319. another society, help the boy and the
  320. girl filter the bad boy away from a
  321. good girl, and the bad girl away from a
  322. good boy. It does some filtration. We
  323. don't have that right now. So what do
  324. we have? We have these three things. I
  325. want someone who looks good. I want
  326. someone who is funny and has a
  327. personality and makes me laugh. And I
  328. want someone who loves me. This you
  329. have to realize. I mean, you have to
  330. mature. So if you ask me what's the
  331. number one thing that you, maturity,
  332. maturity. And see, 25 was someone for
  333. the mature 16? How maturity can prepare
  334. for. Think about marriage, life. And
  335. now they don't act like adults. The job
  336. is a hint. The job is just an
  337. introduction to that. And he didn't,
  338. the Prophet didn't even mention the
  339. word "job." He said whoever can afford
  340. marriage, however you can afford it,
  341. you can afford it. So what does that
  342. mean, especially here. The girl says, "
  343. I know he's supposed to spend on the
  344. family, but he cannot live in an
  345. expensive area." So I have no problem
  346. helping until he stands on his feet. I
  347. always like to add that until he stands
  348. , it should return to be his
  349. responsibility. That is wrong. That is
  350. wrong. That is wrong. Amazing. They
  351. found smart, responsible, and mature
  352. financial situation. We can go into an
  353. even more difficult situation. I don't
  354. need your money now. I will help you
  355. graduate and make money. It might have
  356. marriages more and successful in unity.
  357. Okay. That is wrong. Marriage
  358. scholarships, you know. Then I got
  359. married. Both families, the families
  360. were together. Then they graduated.
  361. Then they came here. Then he went for
  362. his residency. Then she got residency
  363. somewhere else. They were both studying
  364. medicine. Then she said, "I'm not going
  365. for residency if it's away from my
  366. husband." And by now they have one
  367. child. They ended up with four children
  368. . She didn't finish the residency. He
  369. finished. Then he said, now they both
  370. started the company and the company.
  371. And the company became successful. Then
  372. the company collapsed because, you know
  373. , series A, series B, series C of
  374. financing and, you know, funding. So
  375. the company, they went through the pain
  376. together. Their...Uh, their first kid
  377. is graduating high school. And tomorrow
  378. I have to...I got married, if he’s in
  379. school, it must be 18 years ago, right?
  380. I think he’s 17 or so. So they must
  381. have gotten...So it worked because
  382. there is maturity, there is sincerity
  383. there. I want to stop the many parents
  384. who stand against that. I actually work
  385. with the students. I work with their
  386. parents that, no. Support them. Support
  387. them for the intent. Okay. Actually,
  388. the work also, as I said, our heritage
  389. says to be right now, perfect, when
  390. there is, when we do things for the
  391. right purpose. So in my mind, in my
  392. mind as a Muslim, My mind, I am a human
  393. , I am a Muslim. I have been guided by
  394. ...Allah. First, why do you make money?
  395. To get...so notice the difference, do I
  396. make money to...Because the American
  397. proposal is I have, then get married.
  398. You know, I found out just recently and
  399. it turned out to be true. You know, we
  400. have the millennials. 2000. 30, 35. And
  401. having and...If this happens to be, the
  402. life of the Prophet (peace be upon him)
  403. was 25...Unintentionally, no. It
  404. happens intentionally there. Because if
  405. you get married at age 35, when people
  406. get married and young, my advice to
  407. them, which is usually uncommon advice,
  408. would not come out, but to save
  409. generations in the future. I say to
  410. them when they...Wait a year. Three is
  411. a good number, 3 years before you have
  412. children. Why? So that you get to know
  413. one another. So you can build these
  414. happy memories. How would you...Would
  415. ...Come, not...How this kid...Oh no, I
  416. don't [want] him that way. I [want] him
  417. that way. No, I don't [want] him that.
  418. The kid grows up in a fighting house.
  419. Either a divorce will...About things
  420. before you have. That's when you travel
  421. the world. And have the fun. And have
  422. the honeymoon. And get to know. And get
  423. connected and volunteer together. Learn
  424. Islam. Together...And maturity. Go...
  425. Together. Boys and girls grow up
  426. looking at...One. But you get married.
  427. We have a child. You get to know the
  428. other person. So my advice to the
  429. people and...And by the way, I'm very
  430. open-minded about this, and...And
  431. people thank...Praise be to God. Oh...
  432. Peace be upon you. And peace be upon
  433. you. May Allah make...You have kids.
  434. But you get married and you have. Then
  435. you find out. So that's when my view is
  436. entirely different. Before having
  437. children. After having children. After
  438. having children. to save the marriage
  439. because there is physical abuse. And a
  440. threat to the safety of you. You have
  441. to call the police. Call the police.
  442. But don't call the police for things
  443. you will answer for legally later. If
  444. you fear for your safety. You know this
  445. guy. He pulls a trigger. Masha'Allah.
  446. 10 manners. our success. So now we are
  447. thinking more. So I am here for confirm
  448. them. So mission. Okay. Peace be upon
  449. him. Make sure that your children have
  450. something if you pass away. As I stated
  451. before. The four ways we spend our
  452. money. We spend with moderation. We
  453. save money in case something happens.
  454. And we are the four areas. before the
  455. only reason why you make money. Okay.
  456. Peace be upon him. The Hadith: Marry
  457. and multiply. For I will be proud of
  458. you before the nations on the Day of
  459. Judgment. Why do I have to die? and my
  460. purpose in life of it. How do I keep
  461. the deen of Allah going by bringing and
  462. raising? very for it. I can go ahead. I
  463. know of educated I mean, one. is a. One
  464. is a top-tier engineer and a hardware
  465. engineer. They got married. They can't
  466. have kids, which makes the marriage
  467. hard. They both together went to a
  468. Muslim country and lived there for a
  469. few years. They just came back from
  470. another Muslim country and adopted boys
  471. . No children? No problem. We will get
  472. the children. Look at the connection.
  473. They know their role in life. One of
  474. two things would have happened if they
  475. were not committed to Islam: divorce.
  476. Or let's say. We can't have children.
  477. Well, let's go and travel the world. No
  478. , we go and adopt children and we're
  479. going to raise them like our children
  480. and fulfill our purpose in life. To me,
  481. that's very honorable. Like, the
  482. respect that I have for this couple. I
  483. don't think they know how much I
  484. respect them. And I look up to them.
  485. May Allah preserve them. And preserve
  486. their marriage and their children. And
  487. this is the shortest ticket to going to
  488. where? To Jannah. Is to raise someone
  489. who, these kids they adopted. No mom,
  490. no dad, no extended family in sight. So
  491. they literally saved a child from
  492. complete demise and destruction. And
  493. growing up alone in society. So, so
  494. does that Yes. As the example of the
  495. job, when you go to your job, they
  496. might give you a very nice desk, a very
  497. nice laptop. They might tell you we
  498. want you to travel around for sales. So
  499. you get to travel between cities and.
  500. They will sponsor your hotels and they
  501. will sponsor your meals. A fun life for
  502. some people. But is that the purpose,
  503. or does it come with the job? No. The
  504. purpose is for you to do your job.
  505. These things just come along. So, one
  506. of Allah's blessings upon us is that
  507. when we get married, we get all the joy
  508. that comes with it. It's not a boring
  509. job. Responsibility and part of the
  510. divine design for the individual and
  511. the joy because about 20 years ago
  512. positive between the husband and wife
  513. specifically SubhanAllah, and the
  514. purpose is not clear in life. So, the
  515. girl was watching. I am sitting down
  516. with their daughter. The girl turned to
  517. her mother and said, "Mother, can you
  518. just wait three months until I can have
  519. my wedding? And you both can walk me
  520. down the aisle. And we can look like
  521. normal people in front of the other
  522. family. And then divorce my dad." She
  523. said, "No, not for you." I was like,
  524. man. I never thought I would live to
  525. see such a scene. And she looked at her
  526. and said, "You don't have a good reason
  527. to divorce my dad. I know the truth
  528. about what's between you. He is a
  529. loving father, he is a husband. You are
  530. not going to raise me. You are not
  531. going to teach me. I raised you; don't
  532. try to raise me." Okay, so you see,
  533. when the vision is not clear, what
  534. happens? You Islam, how this is the
  535. season we are about to perform all in.
  536. Many. Allah. Ismail, the mother of
  537. Ismail, grand Prophet Muhammad peace be
  538. upon him, Ishaq, Yaqub, the 12. I mean
  539. Ismail and Hajar, Ismail and Sarah,
  540. Ibrahim, Ismail, Ibrahim, Sarah, Ishaq,
  541. peace be upon him. Allah says of
  542. Ibrahim, "Indeed, Ibrahim was a nation.
  543. " All of them. So it became and became
  544. the way. So we need to change our
  545. mindset. Because we have been subjected
  546. to the cartoons that we watched when we
  547. were kids. And then we grew up. And the
  548. society around us, they talk about love
  549. . And then we watch romance movies. And
  550. what is funny is, like I tell people, I
  551. say, "You know, in a romance, I mean,
  552. it reconciles, you walk out happy,
  553. right? And they are in love, and this
  554. and that." You. Know, in an hour and a
  555. half to two-hour movie, they cannot
  556. make it all happy, happy. Because
  557. people will walk out of the movie. They
  558. would say, "This is boring." Where is
  559. the plot? Where is the director? Where
  560. is the story? And we become programmed
  561. to want our entire life, not a
  562. two-hour movie, but our entire life,
  563. to be perfect, perfect, perfect, happy,
  564. happy, happy, happy, happy. no ups. And
  565. impossible. So when our entire life
  566. does not fit a two hours movie, then we
  567. say we're not meant for each other. And
  568. we end up getting divorced. Why this?
  569. Because you might underestimate the
  570. impact of your growth in society. And
  571. what it affects you, how you look at
  572. marriage. You have you think, do you
  573. think you have a mind? You, most of us,
  574. we don't have a mind. So is it a
  575. hopeless case? No. We have thoughts
  576. about how our deen provides for you.
  577. Know, Allah describes marriage in the
  578. Quran as a miracle. This word was a
  579. miracle. Quran. A sign from the "Ta'ni.
  580. ""Ta'ni" means reflection, patience,
  581. taking the time. You this means Allah,
  582. the sun. Allah. And from His signs are
  583. the night, the day, the sun, and the
  584. moon. Allah. Scholars, Allah Quran.
  585. Allah. The sun, the moon, the stars,
  586. the mountains. The mountains, the sun,
  587. the moon, the day, the night, the
  588. mountain, the galaxies, the sky and how
  589. it’s expanding, the earth and how it
  590. contracts and it expands. Oh. My God. I
  591. just also recently found that because
  592. of the uh moon, it affects you know the
  593. the tide, it's actually a bulge. It
  594. causes a bulge around the earth and the
  595. earth goes like this, like, and
  596. that’s mentioned in the Quran. It’s
  597. fascinating. In Surah Ar-Rum. Allah.
  598. And from His signs, Allah. That He
  599. created for you from among yourselves,
  600. spouses. Ya Allah. Allah, so you may
  601. find tranquility in them. And He placed
  602. between you affection and mercy. Allah.
  603. Affection. Not just love, but softness,
  604. need, so one another to establish. When
  605. someone gets sick. And when someone
  606. becomes sad. And when someone travels.
  607. And when someone. And when the family
  608. becomes. Mercy. Allah. Because Allah
  609. placed miracles, marvels from among
  610. your things. So you will be secure and
  611. peaceful next to them. Put between you
  612. affection and mercy. Natural. In that
  613. sign. For a people who reflect. They
  614. need analysis and don't deal with
  615. things at face value. Oh, he looks good
  616. , he's funny, and he makes me feel good
  617. . Allah. Actually. Thoughtfully. It's
  618. beautiful and cute when a two-year-old
  619. throws a tantrum. It's not cute when
  620. the husband throws a tantrum or the
  621. wife. Not long ago, I was in a marriage
  622. counseling session and. Simply, one of
  623. the two spouses said, "I'm just
  624. stubborn." Me: "Come again, please."
  625. Could my mind be looking for logic here
  626. ? Seriously, what are you, five years
  627. old? Ten years old? And "I'm just
  628. stubborn"? You're destroying the family
  629. and you're just stubborn. So where is
  630. the maturity? You know, the maturity is
  631. very, very important. So where does
  632. maturity come from? Reading the Quran,
  633. implementing the Quran, making the
  634. Quran Islam gives you roles,
  635. establishing justice, establishing
  636. mercy, establishing excellence,
  637. spreading the truth. Do you think
  638. someone who is busy in their life doing
  639. these four things will be immature,
  640. will act like a little kid? Will be
  641. irresponsible? So we really need the
  642. paradigm shift from where? From going
  643. from I want to get married for myself
  644. which is true that comes with the
  645. package. Allah said he put between us.
  646. Allah said he put between us love. The
  647. Quran. Apply and learn. Apply and give
  648. me as mention of the Quran. And are out
  649. of another foundation. What does the
  650. Quran expect the husband and wife to be
  651. ? Friends. Allah. Quranic companions.
  652. Companion. 40 or 50. SubhanAllah. 30,
  653. 40, 50 years. 2 weeks later. The wife,
  654. the wife. 2 That's it. God willing.
  655. Maghrib prayer. Eat dinner and build
  656. things by making a choice. How. How do
  657. I make a right choice and how do I
  658. approach this thing of marriage? That's
  659. why like when I see a young man,
  660. especially a young man, do I go for my
  661. career or do I go for marriage? I say
  662. you're going for your career so that
  663. you can get married and you're getting
  664. married to have children. But just
  665. please don't have children right away
  666. until you build a relationship between
  667. you and your spouse. You build a strong
  668. foundation. You agree on the future, on
  669. the way of thinking, you adjust and
  670. there will be tug-of-war and fights
  671. while you're adjusting. Do all of that,
  672. or most of it, before you have children
  673. . Because once the wife becomes
  674. pregnant, the husband has to step in,
  675. and maybe she was a very good housewife
  676. and now she cannot do the same thing.
  677. He has now to come and step in. There's
  678. no time for argument. It's going to be
  679. all support through the pregnancy,
  680. through the delivery, through the
  681. post-delivery. We don't have time to
  682. argue right now. You want to argue,
  683. argue in the first year or two or three
  684. ; let's be done with that. This is the
  685. time we stand with each other. So then
  686. from there we build on that, God
  687. willing, certain points that I would
  688. like to cover. I think I will pause or
  689. end the theme and will continue
  690. otherwise it will become a very long
  691. video if we pray and come back to Glory
  692. be to You, O Allah. To You, God willing
  693. , Maghrib. God willing. May Allah
  694. reward you.
