The Clock Is Ticking | Al-Sirat Al-Mustaqeem EP.8 | A Journey With Shaykh Alauddin ElBakri
Shaykh Alauddin ElBakri
7 moments mention “Prayer”:
- Assalaamu 'Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh
- and welcome back to this journey on "As-Sirat al-Mustaqim"
- I want you to imagine with me this "Sirat"
- this path that Allah SWT
- defined for us the purpose defined for us the goals.
- Now, in order to be able to fulfill the purpose
- and accomplish the goals, we need resources.
- And listen to this beautiful Hadith that the Prophet PBUH
- defined for us 4 resources that Allah gave us.
- Today, we will deal with the first one of them.
- The Hadith says:
- The translation:
- No one will move on the day of judgment from his site.
- You're not going anywhere on the day of judgment.
- You're not going to heaven or anywhere else until Allah asks you
- about four things that you have to answer about.
- Number one, about your entire lifetime,
- how did you spend your lifetime? About your health,
- how did you use your health
- and exhaust your health? About your knowledge,
- what did you do with your knowledge?
- You knew so many things,
- did you apply them? And about your wealth,
- from where did you earn it, and how did you spend it?
- Now that puts us with the first element, which is the element of time,
- one of the greatest blessings upon us from Allah SWT
- Time is all what we got.
- It is because of time that we are alive.
- Allah the Mighty and the Majestic spoke about time in the Quran
- and swore by it:
- (By the ˹passage of˺ time!
- Surely humanity is in ˹grave˺ loss)
- Allah swore by time "Aser" which means, time this passing time
- but not only that, so many times in the Quran
- Allah used that day and night,
- which are the units that we use to calculate time
- as we all know in the beautiful short Surahs in Juz' Amma:
- (By the sun and its brightness, and the moon as it follows it,
- and the day as it unveils it, and the night as it conceals it!)
- By the sun and its light by the moon
- when it comes after at night, by the day, when it clarifies everything.
- And by the night when it over covers everything.
- When Allah in the next Surah says:
- (By the night when it covers, and the day when it shines!)
- when the night comes
- and covers everything, and when that day comes
- and clarifies everything. Look how Allah constantly in the Quran
- is talking to us about time, Allah SWT
- told us in The Noble Quran that He created the Sun
- as a source of energy and light, and the moon as the reflection of light,
- and He, the Mighty and the Majestic, also created for us:
- (And Has subjected the day and night for you)
- Here is something that you need to know.
- Allah Has subdued and subjected time for you.
- It is at your disposal.
- You can control it.
- You can manage it.
- You don't have to be a victim of time.
- You can be the master of your time.
- And that is a very empowering statement:
- when Allah says that I have subdued to you the day and the night.
- And I created the sun and the moon, and I made the moon go into stages.
- (So that you may know the number of years and calculation)
- So that you know the number of years
- and you know math. Interestingly, when you study the history of math,
- they will tell you math started when human beings started looking
- and the stars
- the stars and the sun and the moon and tried to figure out its movement.
- That was the earliest movement of learning complicated math.
- Subhanallah, Allah mentioned it in The Noble Quran
- So time is under your control. Now, when it comes to figuring out
- what is time, you will find that even physicists
- and mathematicians are so much puzzled by this time.
- What is time?
- Finally, Einstein said it's the fourth dimension. Width, depth, height and time.
- Now, Subhanallah
- I want you to think about how interesting this concept of time.
- If I brought a basketball in my hand and I started spinning it and I said,
- Look at it, look at it.
- And then suddenly, while I'm spinning it, I told you: "While this basket
- ball is spinning because it's spinning, you're getting older"
- you'll be like: "Huh? Why?"
- But that's our story with time. Earth,
- a rock, is spinning around itself and is spinning around the sun.
- And because it's spinning, we're getting older.
- Subhanallah, only Allah understands what time is,
- because he's the one who created it.
- Now, I want you to think with me, why
- we need to be very alert when it comes to time?
- We are preparing ourselves for the day of judgment,
- and on the day of judgment, Allah will ask us, how did we spend our time?
- I'm going to give you an example that will clarify things.
- Let's say you lived 60 years, Inshall'Allah
- you live longer.
- the Prophet PBUH
- lived 63
- honorable, lunar years.
- Peace be upon him and upon all his Family and Companions
- Now, when we talk about these 60 years,
- if you, on average, between the first few years of your life
- when you slept a lot,
- and the last few years of your life, if you are on average, slept 8 hours
- a day, do you know that you would have slept 20 years
- out of the 60 years? You're laying on bed, sleeping
- if you worked, on average, and went to school when you were a kid
- and adult, and the work time, on average 8 hours a day.
- Do you know that's another 20 years of your life gone, just working?
- Do you know if you just spent
- around 4 hours taking a shower, putting on your clothes,
- taking off your clothes, driving to work, driving back from work,
- doing the things in the middle, 4 hours a day.
- Do you know you have just spent 10 years of your life doing that?
- And do you know if, Masha'Allah,
- the 5 daily prayers take from you one hour a day,
- meaning, 10 minutes on average, 15 minutes, let's say one hour.
- You are meeting Allah on the day of judgment with two
- and a half years of worship out of 60 years.
- Do you know how miserable is that?
- We have to wake up now. Most of us,
- it doesn't take us even 10 minutes to pray.
- Maybe 5 minutes.
- Which means you just met Allah with one year
- and about three months of worship out of 60 years.
- How do we change that?
- Now, here are two tips that going to make you Insha'Allah master
- time, they are driven from Quran and Sunnah. Number one,
- "Neyyah" your intention
- Prophet PBUH taught us
- how to turn every normal act
- which we call habit, into an act of worship. How?
- With the intention.
- And that's why you'll find that the Prophet PBUH
- will make the intention, and to remind himself
- he will say it out loud, before going to sleep.
- I want my 8 hours of sleep to be counted as worship.
- (In Your name my Lord, I lie down and in Your name I rise)
- (Oh Allah, in Your Name I die and I live)
- He will say a Dhikr before sleeping
- to intend his sleeping for the sake of Allah SWT
- He even showed you another way, you went to sleep,
- but you prayed Isha prayer in the congregation, and you prayed
- Fajr prayers in the congregation, the Prophet PBUH
- says: Allah will count it for you, as if the whole night you were praying.
- This is called turning a time
- into something bigger, turning a habit into a worship.
- The second thing that I want you to know, that when you take time
- and make an intention before we eat, we say "Bismi'Allah"
- After we eat, we say "Alhamdulillah"
- Before we sleep, we say "Bismi'Allah" after we sleep,
- the first word comes from the mouth of the Prophet PBUH
- (All praise belongs to Allah Who has restored us back to life after causing us to die; and to Him shall we return)
- Thank God who gave me life after death and to him we will be resurrected one day.
- Subhanahu wa Ta'ala
- So this is beautiful.
- Before you enter the bathroom, you say a prayer after you get out of the bathroom,
- you say a prayer. When you enter your car, you say a prayer,
- when you get out, you say something.
- You say "Bismi'Allah"
- When you enter the Mosque, there is a prayer,
- when you leave the mosque, there is a prayer
- Look, every movement that is not perceived as traditional
- worship, Prophet PBUH, turned into worship,
- including when a husband and wife go to bed
- and they just enjoy their pleasure in Halal, Allah SWT
- counts it for them as the Hasana because they did it in the name of Allah,
- in a Halal way.
- This is revolutionary. This is unbelievable.
- Alhamdulillah, I'm so inspired and impressed by Prophet PBUH
- and how Allah SWT taught him.
- Now, the second thing, when you take any moment of your life, our life is finite.
- We have a birthday, we have a death day, and in the middle, that's a limited time.
- Now you come to any moment of your finite life.
- You have an intention, or you follow the intention with action.
- So whether it's an intention alone or intention
- plus action, and that action takes you 5 minutes.
- Let's say, you went you saw someone that needed help,
- you went, you bought food for them, you helped them.
- You would drop them off where they need to be dropped off.
- Whatever is the help, these 5 minutes, you have just transformed it
- from being finite to being infinite. Why?
- Because that time turns into Hasana.
- What does a "Hasana" a good deed do for you
- on the long run? It gives you eternity in heaven.
- This mechanism of intention plus action
- turns that which is finite, to that which is infinite, which is very awesome.
- Alhamdulillah Rabbu Alameen
- Insha'Allah, tomorrow we will learn about two things
- how to maximize your time that you have now in this world
- and how to prolong
- the effect of your time, even after your death.
- Insha'Allah. So see you tomorrow.
