7 moments mention “Prayer”:

  1. Assalaamu 'Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh
  2. and welcome back to this journey on "As-Sirat al-Mustaqim"
  3. I want you to imagine with me this "Sirat"
  4. this path that Allah SWT
  5. defined for us the purpose defined for us the goals.
  6. Now, in order to be able to fulfill the purpose
  7. and accomplish the goals, we need resources.
  8. And listen to this beautiful Hadith that the Prophet PBUH
  9. defined for us 4 resources that Allah gave us.
  10. Today, we will deal with the first one of them.
  11. The Hadith says:
  16. The translation:
  17. No one will move on the day of judgment from his site.
  18. You're not going anywhere on the day of judgment.
  19. You're not going to heaven or anywhere else until Allah asks you
  20. about four things that you have to answer about.
  21. Number one, about your entire lifetime,
  22. how did you spend your lifetime? About your health,
  23. how did you use your health
  24. and exhaust your health? About your knowledge,
  25. what did you do with your knowledge?
  26. You knew so many things,
  27. did you apply them? And about your wealth,
  28. from where did you earn it, and how did you spend it?
  29. Now that puts us with the first element, which is the element of time,
  30. one of the greatest blessings upon us from Allah SWT
  31. Time is all what we got.
  32. It is because of time that we are alive.
  33. Allah the Mighty and the Majestic spoke about time in the Quran
  34. and swore by it:
  35. (By the ˹passage of˺ time!
  36. Surely humanity is in ˹grave˺ loss)
  37. Allah swore by time "Aser" which means, time this passing time
  38. but not only that, so many times in the Quran
  39. Allah used that day and night,
  40. which are the units that we use to calculate time
  41. as we all know in the beautiful short Surahs in Juz' Amma:
  42. (By the sun and its brightness, and the moon as it follows it,
  43. and the day as it unveils it, and the night as it conceals it!)
  44. By the sun and its light by the moon
  45. when it comes after at night, by the day, when it clarifies everything.
  46. And by the night when it over covers everything.
  47. When Allah in the next Surah says:
  48. (By the night when it covers, and the day when it shines!)
  49. when the night comes
  50. and covers everything, and when that day comes
  51. and clarifies everything. Look how Allah constantly in the Quran
  52. is talking to us about time, Allah SWT
  53. told us in The Noble Quran that He created the Sun
  54. as a source of energy and light, and the moon as the reflection of light,
  55. and He, the Mighty and the Majestic, also created for us:
  56. (And Has subjected the day and night for you)
  57. Here is something that you need to know.
  58. Allah Has subdued and subjected time for you.
  59. It is at your disposal.
  60. You can control it.
  61. You can manage it.
  62. You don't have to be a victim of time.
  63. You can be the master of your time.
  64. And that is a very empowering statement:
  65. when Allah says that I have subdued to you the day and the night.
  66. And I created the sun and the moon, and I made the moon go into stages.
  67. (So that you may know the number of years and calculation)
  68. So that you know the number of years
  69. and you know math. Interestingly, when you study the history of math,
  70. they will tell you math started when human beings started looking
  71. and the stars
  72. the stars and the sun and the moon and tried to figure out its movement.
  73. That was the earliest movement of learning complicated math.
  74. Subhanallah, Allah mentioned it in The Noble Quran
  75. So time is under your control. Now, when it comes to figuring out
  76. what is time, you will find that even physicists
  77. and mathematicians are so much puzzled by this time.
  78. What is time?
  79. Finally, Einstein said it's the fourth dimension. Width, depth, height and time.
  80. Now, Subhanallah
  81. I want you to think about how interesting this concept of time.
  82. If I brought a basketball in my hand and I started spinning it and I said,
  83. Look at it, look at it.
  84. And then suddenly, while I'm spinning it, I told you: "While this basket
  85. ball is spinning because it's spinning, you're getting older"
  86. you'll be like: "Huh? Why?"
  87. But that's our story with time. Earth,
  88. a rock, is spinning around itself and is spinning around the sun.
  89. And because it's spinning, we're getting older.
  90. Subhanallah, only Allah understands what time is,
  91. because he's the one who created it.
  92. Now, I want you to think with me, why
  93. we need to be very alert when it comes to time?
  94. We are preparing ourselves for the day of judgment,
  95. and on the day of judgment, Allah will ask us, how did we spend our time?
  96. I'm going to give you an example that will clarify things.
  97. Let's say you lived 60 years, Inshall'Allah
  98. you live longer.
  99. the Prophet PBUH
  100. lived 63
  101. honorable, lunar years.
  102. Peace be upon him and upon all his Family and Companions
  103. Now, when we talk about these 60 years,
  104. if you, on average, between the first few years of your life
  105. when you slept a lot,
  106. and the last few years of your life, if you are on average, slept 8 hours
  107. a day, do you know that you would have slept 20 years
  108. out of the 60 years? You're laying on bed, sleeping
  109. if you worked, on average, and went to school when you were a kid
  110. and adult, and the work time, on average 8 hours a day.
  111. Do you know that's another 20 years of your life gone, just working?
  112. Do you know if you just spent
  113. around 4 hours taking a shower, putting on your clothes,
  114. taking off your clothes, driving to work, driving back from work,
  115. doing the things in the middle, 4 hours a day.
  116. Do you know you have just spent 10 years of your life doing that?
  117. And do you know if, Masha'Allah,
  118. the 5 daily prayers take from you one hour a day,
  119. meaning, 10 minutes on average, 15 minutes, let's say one hour.
  120. You are meeting Allah on the day of judgment with two
  121. and a half years of worship out of 60 years.
  122. Do you know how miserable is that?
  123. We have to wake up now. Most of us,
  124. it doesn't take us even 10 minutes to pray.
  125. Maybe 5 minutes.
  126. Which means you just met Allah with one year
  127. and about three months of worship out of 60 years.
  128. How do we change that?
  129. Now, here are two tips that going to make you Insha'Allah master
  130. time, they are driven from Quran and Sunnah. Number one,
  131. "Neyyah" your intention
  132. Prophet PBUH taught us
  133. how to turn every normal act
  134. which we call habit, into an act of worship. How?
  135. With the intention.
  136. And that's why you'll find that the Prophet PBUH
  137. will make the intention, and to remind himself
  138. he will say it out loud, before going to sleep.
  139. I want my 8 hours of sleep to be counted as worship.
  140. (In Your name my Lord, I lie down and in Your name I rise)
  141. (Oh Allah, in Your Name I die and I live)
  142. He will say a Dhikr before sleeping
  143. to intend his sleeping for the sake of Allah SWT
  144. He even showed you another way, you went to sleep,
  145. but you prayed Isha prayer in the congregation, and you prayed
  146. Fajr prayers in the congregation, the Prophet PBUH
  147. says: Allah will count it for you, as if the whole night you were praying.
  148. This is called turning a time
  149. into something bigger, turning a habit into a worship.
  150. The second thing that I want you to know, that when you take time
  151. and make an intention before we eat, we say "Bismi'Allah"
  152. After we eat, we say "Alhamdulillah"
  153. Before we sleep, we say "Bismi'Allah" after we sleep,
  154. the first word comes from the mouth of the Prophet PBUH
  155. (All praise belongs to Allah Who has restored us back to life after causing us to die; and to Him shall we return)
  156. Thank God who gave me life after death and to him we will be resurrected one day.
  157. Subhanahu wa Ta'ala
  158. So this is beautiful.
  159. Before you enter the bathroom, you say a prayer after you get out of the bathroom,
  160. you say a prayer. When you enter your car, you say a prayer,
  161. when you get out, you say something.
  162. You say "Bismi'Allah"
  163. When you enter the Mosque, there is a prayer,
  164. when you leave the mosque, there is a prayer
  165. Look, every movement that is not perceived as traditional
  166. worship, Prophet PBUH, turned into worship,
  167. including when a husband and wife go to bed
  168. and they just enjoy their pleasure in Halal, Allah SWT
  169. counts it for them as the Hasana because they did it in the name of Allah,
  170. in a Halal way.
  171. This is revolutionary. This is unbelievable.
  172. Alhamdulillah, I'm so inspired and impressed by Prophet PBUH
  173. and how Allah SWT taught him.
  174. Now, the second thing, when you take any moment of your life, our life is finite.
  175. We have a birthday, we have a death day, and in the middle, that's a limited time.
  176. Now you come to any moment of your finite life.
  177. You have an intention, or you follow the intention with action.
  178. So whether it's an intention alone or intention
  179. plus action, and that action takes you 5 minutes.
  180. Let's say, you went you saw someone that needed help,
  181. you went, you bought food for them, you helped them.
  182. You would drop them off where they need to be dropped off.
  183. Whatever is the help, these 5 minutes, you have just transformed it
  184. from being finite to being infinite. Why?
  185. Because that time turns into Hasana.
  186. What does a "Hasana" a good deed do for you
  187. on the long run? It gives you eternity in heaven.
  188. This mechanism of intention plus action
  189. turns that which is finite, to that which is infinite, which is very awesome.
  190. Alhamdulillah Rabbu Alameen
  191. Insha'Allah, tomorrow we will learn about two things
  192. how to maximize your time that you have now in this world
  193. and how to prolong
  194. the effect of your time, even after your death.
  195. Insha'Allah. So see you tomorrow.
