  13. Allah
  14. we thank Allah subhah waala we praise
  15. him and we bear witness that there is no
  16. God but one God
  17. Allah and we bear witness that Muhammad
  18. sallallahu alaihi wasallam is his final
  19. prophet and messenger he conveyed the
  20. message he showed us the straight path
  21. that will lead us to success in this
  22. world and in the Hereafter May Allah's
  23. peace and blessings and salutations be
  24. upon him and on his
  25. family my dear brothers and sisters as
  26. we are kicking in uh another school year
  27. and as we are trying to take everything
  28. in and process what's happening to
  29. Muslims
  30. worldwide with Gazza and festine being
  31. the center point of the the Beating
  32. Heart of the Muslim ummah and how this
  33. tragedy is dragging and dragging and
  34. dragging to break records uh in
  35. historical context one of the things
  36. that I have shared with you is if you
  37. notice these one minute videos that come
  38. out of RZA the amount of love and
  39. attachment between fathers and their
  40. children and children and their parents
  41. you see not only the 5 years old is
  42. crying hard for missing his mom or dad
  43. because they were killed in a
  44. bombardment in an barbaric Savage way
  45. but also you will find the 15 years old
  46. is also crying very hard very passionate
  47. you find those people between 15 and 20
  48. which is not a common scene that there
  49. is this much love from Sons towards
  50. their fathers and daughters towards
  51. their fathers and towards their mothers
  52. with the Western Hemisphere that we live
  53. in there's we're barely trying to keep
  54. the relationship between children and
  55. parents it's almost uh a f uh in the
  56. western experience that when a child
  57. reaches to a teenage year that they will
  58. be rebellious and they will be uh um um
  59. you know giving their parents hard time
  60. and that they will be the enemies and
  61. that their the household has to go go
  62. through hell within our mindset as
  63. Muslims within our society as Muslims
  64. this cannot be farther from the truth a
  65. Muslim goes from a child that is not M
  66. to a young man or woman that is M so the
  67. way that Islam works with this age is
  68. that it tells that young man or young
  69. woman will come to adulthood you have
  70. now the angels are writing your Deeds
  71. you are as responsible as a full man or
  72. woman so there is no room for you to act
  73. like a fool or unintelligent or under
  74. any excuse this puts a pressure and when
  75. the society encouraged that young boy
  76. and young girl to act like a young man
  77. or young woman then the boy you will
  78. find they gravitate towards even acting
  79. older than their age it looks cute in
  80. the beginning when a 10 years old 11 12
  81. they're actually talking and acting like
  82. a man that's very beautiful now you've
  83. saved that child from so much pain and
  84. suffering because we don't have in Islam
  85. that there is child and then there is
  86. something called teenage that is also
  87. excused and then there is adulthood once
  88. you hit puberty you are meaning reach
  89. puberty means sane
  90. which means
  91. free which means responsible four words
  92. that do that are like in a Four Corners
  93. that hold you tight in the middle and
  94. put you on the straight path very few
  95. people know this where this word teenage
  96. came from it actually came in the second
  97. world war when the European countries
  98. run out of men because so many men died
  99. in the first world war the Second World
  100. War I so they started saying okay it was
  101. the draft age was 22 then it became 21
  102. then it became 20 then it became they
  103. tapped into the 19 and 18 so the the
  104. argument was should teenagers be drafted
  105. and enlisted and involved in the war or
  106. not that was the the only excuse should
  107. they be involved in the war or not
  108. involved should be drafted and become a
  109. sold and they reach to a level okay up
  110. to 18
  111. that excuse from the war became now an
  112. excuse from life you can do whatever you
  113. want but my dear brothers and sisters
  114. what I wanted to share with you is
  115. because Subhan Allah I shared with you
  116. before Gazza within 25 miles by five
  117. miles
  118. 1,350 Mass more it's a record breaker of
  119. anywhere else on planet Earth that there
  120. is that many mass within that small area
  121. so so these children grew up with the
  122. Quran the parents grew up with the Quran
  123. specifically a whole generation the last
  124. 20 years they've been isolated from the
  125. world so they be they grew up with
  126. alquran Kim and you will find the way
  127. alquran Kim deals with this issue the
  128. relationship between parents and their
  129. children it's a very different very
  130. unique even from what we think as
  131. Muslims what we think the Quran says
  132. about the relationship ship between
  133. parents and children is actually not
  134. true the Quran is way much more
  135. sophisticated than we think it is way
  136. much more sophisticated than our
  137. statements what is the most common
  138. statement that a
  139. father uses to assert his authority in
  140. the house or the mother what do we tell
  141. our children Allah says in the Quran you
  142. should listen to your parents Allah says
  143. in the Quran you should obey
  144. parents so here I am a sheh in front of
  145. you I ask you can you please show me
  146. where it says that in the
  147. Quran because it
  148. doesn't because it's more
  149. sophisticated it says it in a
  150. sophisticated way it says it in an in
  151. inclusive way it says it in a way that
  152. will not ruin the relationship it says
  153. it as it's implicit but it's not
  154. emphasized because Allah wants us to
  155. have the best relationship with our
  156. children so he guides us through a set
  157. of words of what to do with our parents
  158. and what not to do and exactly the the
  159. beautiful thing that exactly what Allah
  160. is asking you you the parents you have
  161. little children you also have a parent
  162. exactly the same set of commands of dos
  163. and don'ts that you should apply with
  164. your parents who are the grandparents of
  165. your children your children should apply
  166. with you so you are in training
  167. how do you become the best father is by
  168. you applying becoming the best son and
  169. the best daughter even though now you're
  170. old and married that's how you apply it
  171. you you experiment on yourself first
  172. then you say Ah that's how it's done by
  173. applying this aat in
  174. alquran just so that I close this
  175. chapter very quickly what Allah said in
  176. the Quran that if your
  177. parents fight you to commit your and
  178. leave Islam that was something very
  179. common with the first generation of
  180. sahaba when they became Muslims their
  181. parents told them you either revert from
  182. Islam go back to kuur or I will kill
  183. myself
  184. like he was known for how beautiful he
  185. was with his mother in the city of Mecca
  186. and she stopped eating and drinking so
  187. he came to his mother and said mother
  188. you know that in the entire city of
  189. Mecca no one is better to his mother
  190. than me to you and people say that you
  191. know that but my mother I'm going to say
  192. something to you if you have 100s and
  193. you died one naps by one naps I will not
  194. leave
  195. Islam but I will be I will stay to be
  196. the best son to his mother like I am but
  197. give up on this demand so she ate and
  198. drank because she stopped eating
  199. drinking and taking a shower he said if
  200. you have 100 NS I will not if you die
  201. 100 times but side by side what was
  202. referring he was referring to an Ayah in
  203. the Quran in this Ayah where Allah
  204. say if your parents fight you to
  205. commit then do not obey
  206. them in the same breath the very next
  207. word and befriend them with befriend
  208. them with kindness in this world in one
  209. statement do not obey them but befriend
  210. them imagine how sophisticated is the
  211. Quran do not obey them in the matter of
  212. sh but be a good friend to
  213. them very high
  214. standard now this word do not obey them
  215. implicitly what is it saying saying if
  216. your parents are asking you for anything
  217. else that is not shik and that is not
  218. kufur and that is
  219. not in disobeying Allah then it's
  220. implicit that you will obey them the
  221. fact that Allah said do not obey them
  222. when it comes to sh it means obey them
  223. in anything else but Allah didn't say in
  224. the Quran obey your parents and
  225. everything else because if Allah said
  226. that it would have ruined the
  227. relationship between us and our parents
  228. and us and our children so what did
  229. Allah say very interesting Allah uses
  230. words and is a summary each one of these
  231. words if we Trace its meaning in the
  232. Quran and in the Sunnah it's a lecture
  233. by itself so please excuse me for not
  234. expanding I will just share the words
  235. with you
  236. one Allah says we have recommended the
  237. child the son or the daughter to be good
  238. to
  239. them this
  240. word has so many meanings in it they're
  241. all beautiful you only
  242. make to someone that you love so the the
  243. the will that the father leaves for his
  244. children and the
  245. Last Wish of the father or the mother
  246. when they are on their death bed to
  247. their children is called was you only do
  248. was to someone that you love and you
  249. take care of Wha in Arabic means
  250. guardianship who's the was of this child
  251. oh that's his was maybe his father died
  252. his uncle is the was which means you're
  253. taking care of someone and you love that
  254. person that you are taking care of so
  255. look at the Dynamics when Allah in the
  256. Quran approach the relationship between
  257. parents and children look at how Allah
  258. flipped the model our model the way we
  259. talk you should listen to your
  260. parents the model of the Quran it
  261. flipped it upside down you should take
  262. care of your parents now I'm going to
  263. tell you to your NPS to your human NS
  264. which one is more beloved to you you
  265. should do this or please take care of
  266. this completely flip the Dynamics
  267. we recommended the human to be good and
  268. take care of his par of his parents a so
  269. now the dynamic is just flipped instead
  270. of you telling your child you should
  271. listen to me now you're saying what
  272. please Baba take care of me I'm your
  273. father man y spoil me time look the the
  274. conversation completely flips when you
  275. follow the Quran Dynamic
  276. changes what
  277. in one a and use open your imagination
  278. the wordan is a word in the Quran that
  279. refers to three meanings they're all
  280. true number one when you do something
  281. good it's called when you do something
  282. good if you do something beautiful
  283. something you beautify something it's
  284. called isan and when you perfect
  285. something you do it with perfection to
  286. the best of your it's called three
  287. meanings for the wordan in the Quran so
  288. look what Allah is asking for the
  289. Dynamics what Allah is asking of us
  290. towards our parents and what's asking of
  291. our children towards us usean do
  292. something good do it beautiful and do it
  293. with perfection three meanings for the
  294. wordan third word in the Quran how does
  295. Allah set the Dynamics say thank you
  296. Allah says in the Quran this is
  297. in be thankful to me to Allah and to
  298. your
  299. parents the of they said this is one of
  300. the greatest statements in the Quran why
  301. because nowhere else in the Quran Allah
  302. said for the human do something do this
  303. for me and there's no end in the Quran
  304. after Allah except
  305. here be thankful to me and your parents
  306. this and your parents in the language of
  307. the Quran it gives you the Goosebumps
  308. the MU like oh what's going on
  309. here look what what Allah is setting the
  310. Dynamics be thankful yeah say thank
  311. youa for the way you raised me for the
  312. way you taught me for the way you dealt
  313. with me you know this does so much to
  314. the heart of the father and the mother
  315. more than you will ever think what does
  316. Allah use another word in the Quran look
  317. this is as if we always like to refer to
  318. Stanford and you see s and God knows the
  319. UC system but go back to ALR what does
  320. Allah demand from that child towards the
  321. parents instead of listen to your
  322. parents as if a slave master
  323. relationship what does Allah
  324. say befriend your parents listen listen
  325. this was revealed, 1400 years ago in the
  326. desert of Arabia where they didn't know
  327. this stuff even here in America they're
  328. just reason oh become the there should
  329. be friendship but this friendship be
  330. careful it's not friendship of equals
  331. it's a friendship of a son towards his
  332. father a daughter towards her yeah
  333. children with parents because there is
  334. something that I keep on having to
  335. walking many parents it's a bit funny I
  336. have to walk many parents to cross this
  337. bridge they cry and then I have to hold
  338. their hands and help them what the
  339. father and the mother oh I wanted to be
  340. the best friend of my child
  341. no please don't do that that's the worst
  342. idea you cannot be the best you cannot
  343. and and this is where it becomes
  344. confusing and you're thinking you are
  345. mashallah smart you want to become the
  346. best friend but you want to tell your
  347. child what to do and what not to do the
  348. best friend your best friend doesn't
  349. tell you what to do and what not to do
  350. if they do that they will not be your
  351. best friend so what you need to
  352. understand this friendship is that Allah
  353. is referring to is a friendship with
  354. respect not friendship of equal for
  355. example Allah
  356. says Allah is the of and Allah
  357. says so the m is the of the and Allah is
  358. the of the woman is this here the same
  359. no the this friendship between a slave
  360. and a master between us and
  361. Allah and between equals between the
  362. Believers so it's the same word but it's
  363. not implemented the same way so please
  364. take out of your dictionary that you
  365. want to be the best friend of your child
  366. that will ruin the relationship and that
  367. will load the relationship more than it
  368. is but the child what does Allah command
  369. not the father to tell his oh I am your
  370. best friend no the Son and the daughter
  371. to befriend the parents talk to them
  372. have a conversation how are you my dear
  373. brothers and sisters I really need you
  374. to examine your home you come home do
  375. you have a conversation with your
  376. children how are you what's going on
  377. what happened today in school what's
  378. going up and they ask you and you answer
  379. them if you don't have this conversation
  380. then you have defined your job as a
  381. parent I'm going to feed you I'm going
  382. to clothe you I'm going to give you
  383. shelter please shut up and get good
  384. grades what kind of relationship is that
  385. but the yet that's what's predominant in
  386. most of the homes because the parents
  387. don't know how to talk to their children
  388. and as a result the children don't know
  389. how to talk to the parents what did
  390. Allah
  391. say in this and the other word
  392. is what is the other word that Allah Us
  393. in the
  394. Quran speak to your parents in an
  395. honorable way it's okay the father can
  396. be upset the mother can be upset that's
  397. okay but you cannot be upset when your
  398. father is
  399. upset because you're not equal let him
  400. have his moment let your mom have her
  401. moment after that you can come back and
  402. explain there is no place for argument
  403. and it never works if the father States
  404. their the parents State their opinion
  405. and you try to convince them at the same
  406. moment I'm telling you right now you
  407. failed on start you failed on
  408. departure let the parents have their
  409. moment of upsetting being upset or angry
  410. let them say with this call them
  411. down I listen to you then come back when
  412. they are calm down and say but you know
  413. I want to talk to you about this they
  414. will have the longest conversation with
  415. you be smart about it there's no you're
  416. saying this and I'm saying that and it's
  417. either my opinion or your opinion you
  418. need to teach your child teach your
  419. child hey when you see me upset don't
  420. talk to me right now don't try to
  421. convince me let me come down then come
  422. back and talk to me nicely and by the
  423. way when you come to bring with you a
  424. cup of
  425. tea so that we can have a nice
  426. conversation my dear brothers and
  427. sisters these commands of the the Quran
  428. if you trace them what Allah
  429. says lower the wing of Mercy to your
  430. parents as if you are an angel and you
  431. have a wing lower the wing of mercy be
  432. humble and merciful to your parents tell
  433. your child share with your child do you
  434. know that I barely sleep and I work do
  435. you know you're upset with me to tell
  436. you pick up the garbage do you know what
  437. my boss tells me at work do you know how
  438. long I work share with you you but don't
  439. share while you're upset tell them this
  440. is my work day this so that your child
  441. when they're sitting down said oh my god
  442. I didn't even know do you know more of
  443. most of your children don't know what
  444. you're sacrificing for them the problem
  445. is your problem you never share with
  446. them again a cup of tea mashallah we
  447. have the best tea in the world you go to
  448. Iraq the best tea festine the best tea
  449. Egypt the best tea Pakistan India
  450. Bangladesh Afghanistan the best let the
  451. tea do its
  452. work well you can raise your child over
  453. a cup of
  454. tea have a conversation let's learn I'm
  455. telling you you think it's a joke look
  456. at the conversation between Yousef and
  457. his father yob oh my father I saw
  458. yesterday a dream when was the last time
  459. your child came to you and said my
  460. father I saw a dream do you know what's
  461. the interpretation look at the closeness
  462. look at the conversation they're having
  463. a conversation they're talking about
  464. dreams Beyond reality so that's why my
  465. dear brother brothers and sisters you
  466. know the time of theba is a short time
  467. but we try to remind ourselves with
  468. these quranic words
  469. humbleness
  470. and can you believe
  471. two youth
  472. one and one
  473. is ISA the one who resurrects the Dead
  474. the one who heals the leopard instantly
  475. the one who heals the one who's born
  476. blind
  477. how does Allah
  478. praise how does speak about
  479. himself one of the highlights OFA that
  480. he's good to his
  481. mother that goes with large Miracles one
  482. of what
  483. is the word that needs a whole lecture
  484. to trace the word b in Quran and Sunnah
  485. and apply it so these are just headlines
  486. and the last
  487. one make Dua for your parents my dear
  488. brothers and sisters I just shared with
  489. you a list of the Dos I didn't share
  490. with you the list of the Dons because
  491. there is no time next or next event may
  492. Allah put that beautiful relationship
  493. between us and our sons and daughters
  494. and between us and our mothers and
  495. fathers may Allah make us from
  496. my dear brothers sisters I do believe
  497. with all of my heart and this is
  498. something I tried to apply my whole life
  499. the part of my job as a father for my
  500. children not only to provide them with
  501. food shelter home
  502. but to provide them with a Masid with an
  503. Islamic Center I can't raise my children
  504. all of you who know me slightly and know
  505. my children all of you have done me a
  506. favor with the way with being role
  507. models for my children my sons and
  508. daughters I'm talking to the brothers
  509. and my sisters we have we are
  510. all I have done you a favor you have
  511. done me a favor every man and woman just
  512. by showing up to the Masjid imagine if I
  513. bring my son or daughter and they find
  514. in Salat Only One
  515. S how depressing is that by you becoming
  516. the Masjid you don't know how much favor
  517. you're doing to the Believers and how
  518. much favor the Believers are doing for
  519. you and that's what Allah expects from
  520. us but in order to have that we have to
  521. have a center like MCA one of the
  522. largest in my judgment it is the largest
  523. uh actually from square footage point of
  524. view the largest Islamic Center in the
  525. United States is sincerely yours where
  526. you're sitting down and therefore
  527. alhamdulillah we're moving on to a new
  528. building where it will be a place for
  529. Granada school to accept more children
  530. so that we don't have somewhere between
  531. 200 and 400 on the waiting list so that
  532. we can have a youth center for our sons
  533. and daughters who don't go to Granada to
  534. Islamic school maybe they go to public
  535. school but we need to have them after
  536. school program and on the weekend so
  537. that we don't lose them it's just like
  538. you provide a Shel for your children you
  539. should provide a Masid it's the shelter
  540. for
  541. their in one of the suras of the Quran
  542. Allah defined himself as the Lord of
  543. this Masjid the Lord of this house
  544. imagine
  545. Allah Allah is the of this bait and the
  546. r of the mca2 and mca3 and that's why
  547. inshallah by coming Saturday a week from
  548. tomorrow there's the fundraising I
  549. invite you to buy the tickets to come
  550. and to donate again it's one or two or

  554. that's it we're going to close no need
  555. even for a fundraising so we can do it
