The Grand Qiam - Powered by the Quran
Shaykh Alauddin ElBakri (unverified)
6 moments mention “Youth”:
- hey
- i
- so i'm going to give this to you once
- i'm done
- you just like hold it
- like whenever you're exciting or you can
- prepare something and then you're gonna
- have to do the last one
- okay
- all right
- so i hold this one as well right no
- oh okay you can turn it off
- should i test it testing testing one two
- three
- louder
- [Music]
- foreign
- it's okay it's more dramatic
- [Music]
- testing testing
- oh
- [Music]
- all right
- yes
- i'm very hungry
- yes
- testing
- 15
- uh
- yeah probably
- do you know anybody
- i mean there should be chairs in there
- but we have to check with um
- marden maybe
- you should know
- sorry we're still trying to figure out
- the technical difficulties um
- so we're gonna get started
- if the mic decides to work with us
- tonight
- on
- foreign
- can you guys hear me with this level
- maybe
- having a little bit of conflict with the
- echo inshallah but inshallah
- so we're going to get started
- insha'allah with our program once again
- welcome to our grand slam tonight at mca
- this is a collaboration between pawaso
- and mta as long as um
- as well as with mta youth and so before
- we get started let me just explain a
- little bit about what owasso is if
- you've never heard of it um basically
- it's an organization that's founded by
- sheikh al-azin al-baqi
- it works on empowering the youth right
- through their space and their identity
- and this we do through learning we do
- through mentorship and we also do
- through community service and um
- we're partnering with mcau today so that
- we can raise well-rounded individuals
- right you're confident and you're dean
- insha'allah and actually throughout the
- night here's a little fun surprise for
- you um we are going to be having trivia
- questions for the youth in our audience
- like high school and college students
- inshallah because we really want to hear
- your voices as well so
- stay tuned for that throughout the night
- we also have like gift cards and prizes
- for you all they're gonna be hard
- questions though okay
- insha allah but anyways to start off our
- event obviously it's called powered by
- the quran right so
- what better way to start than with the
- recitation of the quran in allah and so
- our body tonight is actually
- only 17 years old his name is
- [Music]
- [Music]
- and allah presents examples for the
- people and allah is the knowing of all
- things
- such niches are in mosques which allah
- has ordered to be raised and that his
- name to be mentioned
- therein exalting him within them in the
- morning and the evenings
- our men who remove the communists
- from the remembrance of allah and
- performance of prayer and giving of the
- heart that they fear a day in which the
- hearts and eyes will faithfully turn a
- town about
- that allah may reward them according to
- the rest of what they did and increase
- them from his bounty
- and allah gives pervision to whom he
- wills without account
- next i'll be reading the translation for
- sure
- indeed we send the quran
- down during the night of the crew and
- what can make you know what is the night
- of night of decree the night of decree
- is
- the angels and the spirits descend there
- and by commission of the lord for every
- matter
- peace it is until the emergence of god
- next i'll be reading the foundation of
- sunderland
- by time indeed mankind is involved
- except for those who have believed and
- unrighteous needs and advised each other
- to truth and advise each other
- oh
- okay next we're going to be introducing
- uh imam
- anwar
- he's uh an american muslim scholar and
- preacher born in london england he lived
- in the san francisco bay area since 1983
- after completing his religious studies
- imam has served the bay area muslim
- community
- since 2000
- he also teaches islamic law at zaituna
- college he is currently the chairman of
- the board of nissan north american
- islamic shelter for their abuse
- an organization that works towards
- alleviating issues related to domestic
- violence please help me welcome my
- father
- so
- foreign
- [Music]
- in the name of allah most gracious most
- merciful i bear witness that there is
- none worthy of worship except the one
- allah
- and that his beloved nabi and prophet
- muhammad
- peace and blessings of allah be upon him
- is his last and final
- it gives me great pleasure and honor to
- be here with all of you on this blessed
- night
- in this blessed month of ramadan in this
- extremely blessed faith
- for those of you that may not know i've
- actually lived in the bay area for
- almost 40 years
- which means that
- this
- was
- a dream
- growing up
- i traced my route so far back when i was
- maybe your age
- that we used to come to the mca for yam
- in the morning
- but there were no four facilities
- so we would actually bring our support
- with us in our cars
- and our cereal and milk and bowls
- everything and after the yam we go into
- the parking lot open the trunk of our
- cars and stand and have our support air
- so times have definitely changed
- for the better alhamdulillah
- but in any case
- the thing that i want to speak to you
- about today happens to be from the quran
- specifically
- our relationship with our parents
- and primarily
- our relationship with our
- mothers very very interesting that when
- we open the quran
- we find of course verses in the quran
- where
- allah god almighty reminds us
- to be kind and beautiful to our parents
- but not just that
- there's
- specific mention of mothers
- in multiple places so for example
- there's a chapter in the quran called
- mary maryam
- there's an entire chapter in the quran
- and the story begins
- or sorry the chapter begins
- with
- there's three verses that i'm going to
- touch on really quickly
- allah refers to
- the specific incident when she gave
- birth to
- prior
- to him being born allah
- foreign
- um
- allah refers to
- the difficulty
- can we just get everyone in the back to
- quiet down please
- thank
- the pain that she was having as a result
- of that pregnancy
- brought her to a
- date palm tree underneath the date palm
- tree
- and in that moment for those for those
- of us that know the story of maryam
- the miraculous pregnancy in the
- miraculous birth
- in that moment she said
- i wish that i had died before this and i
- was completely forgotten that no one
- would even know
- who i was
- but interestingly enough
- allah had different plans for her
- right interestingly allah had different
- plans for her she gave birth
- and the story
- generations later
- makes mention of her in the quran in an
- entire chapter not just a verse not just
- two verses rather an entire chapter
- happens to be the only woman in regards
- to whom allah has an entire chapter not
- even the blessed wives
- of the believers have an entire chapter
- after them despite their importance and
- despite the the need for our
- revering them for being the wives of the
- prophet
- there's two more verses i want to touch
- on i don't have a
- we reminded we gave advice to the human
- beings to be beautiful to their parents
- she bore him the mother bore him with
- difficulty upon difficulty
- i'm mentioning the difficulty piece for
- a reason because there's a hadith that i
- want to mention at the end
- she bore him with difficulty upon
- difficulty right that's what allah
- subhanahu wa
- the verse is longer it carries on but
- that's i'm going to move on
- then another place right around there
- allah says
- and we give advice to the human beings
- to be kind to their parents now listen
- to this says
- if they force you
- to associate partners with god
- because of them not having knowledge
- the only time in your life in which you
- are not allowed to obey your parents is
- if they ask you to associate partners
- with allah
- otherwise you always have to obey your
- talent then interestingly allah
- that we will all return
- be with them
- so we recite the quran we read the quran
- but the message of the quran is very
- very powerful
- and when it comes to parents
- and specifically mothers
- allah not the prophet
- himself reminds us to be
- a human being
- can never
- never ever
- repay
- their mother
- for what she has
- but
- interestingly enough he continues and
- says that maybe
- maybe if your mother was a slave
- and you freed her she was a slave and
- you freed her
- that maybe you might have been able to
- repay her for a few moments
- of the pregnancy
- and so many of us myself included
- have immigrant parents
- and they don't necessarily understand
- the culture that we're being raised in
- a lifestyle around us
- but let's not forget that our parents
- come from
- religion and culture
- in which
- they've been top down
- they have certain values
- and they do have in reality sometimes
- an interesting way
- to share those values
- they have an interesting way of sharing
- those values with us
- but their hearts are in the right place
- their hearts are in the right place
- these are the very parents
- who when they wake up in them and i'm
- telling you from experience
- when they wake up in the middle of the
- night to pray to allah they're probably
- praying more for their kids than they
- are for themselves
- this is not something you tell your kids
- you just don't it's not like i go to my
- kids and say hey kiddo you know when i
- wake up in the middle of the night i
- pray a lot for you i don't do that
- it sounds weird
- but that's the
- reality and it's as a result of those
- prayers
- that we end up succeeding with the
- result of those prayers that divine
- doors open up for us we sit in classes
- and we're able to understand and
- comprehend we meet people that may be a
- benefit to us in our life at a later
- point you end up getting a job interview
- at a place where you never thought you'd
- get a job interview you end up getting
- into a college or university you never
- thought you were going to get into hard
- work no doubt
- hard work no doubt but we believe in the
- muslim tradition that it's not just
- about hard work we believe in the power
- of prayer
- and that's why and the most powerful
- prayer amongst the prayers that are
- definitely
- always accepted you never never ever
- and so while we do the hard work don't
- ever forget that it's those prayers that
- even inspire us to do the hard work
- right it's those prayers that get us
- into places that we need to get into
- don't ever forget that that's that's
- and that's why when we talk about
- prayers you know
- the common habit amongst
- the eastern culture or the muslim
- culture is we ask our elders to make you
- up for us we go to you know go to
- grandma you go grandpa if they make your
- outfit right
- and
- the ulama our teachers remind us and
- they tell us and of course the prayer of
- the mother is far more powerful
- my parents happen to be alive
- and i'll go to my parents for prayers
- and my dad will say go to your mom
- she said he says go to your mom my dad's
- a so you know you kind of think
- like dad knows you know and he's on
- um but in any case
- um you know he'll say go to your mom
- because
- there's one thing to ask someone to pray
- for you
- but it's an entirely different thing
- to do things for someone
- you do you do things for them
- you do things with them
- as a result of which
- the prayers come from inside
- that moment of excitement that moment of
- happiness that moment of life
- and while sometimes you and i might not
- take it for granted because she's just
- mom what does mom know
- that's his dad what does dad know
- but they have a spiritual relationship
- with the almighty
- which has been given to them and every
- parent has it which means when you
- become parents this is going to happen
- as well
- when you become parents
- it just automatically happens
- and so they have that spiritual
- relationship with the creator with the
- almighty
- that when we do things good for them
- there's a prayer
- when we do things to please them to
- conduce your prayers and i'll share this
- very personal and i'll close with this
- you know i've shared this in the past i
- don't like to make it public
- but it is what it is and this is just an
- example for you right for those of you
- that for those of you that know me no
- i'm kind of busy okay just for the
- record you know what i'm saying i i
- this is my third event tonight you know
- what i'm saying
- um
- and so you know you're kind of busy
- but you have the honor of looking after
- your parents the mom
- it's a busy day and mom just tells you
- we're indians
- okay
- you may find the non-arabs non-babies
- and they haven't been their wife
- i mean for reality most of us that are
- being raised in america are probably
- going to get married from muslims
- regardless of their effort background
- you know what i'm saying again i don't
- want to go again i'm sorry
- i'm bringing up controversial issues
- here okay okay okay um but mom tells me
- hey kiddo
- no matter who you are
- no matter what your life may be no
- matter where your bios get read no
- matter no matter what your
- accomplishment may be no matter when you
- walk into a hall everyone gets up and
- you get to sit at the front table
- this is part of this is part of my
- territory this is who i am as an
- individual
- but you know what
- i believe i brought there
- i'm being
- and when you go home with that
- medication
- even before mom thinks you're going to
- pick it up tomorrow
- that prayer
- is what will make all the rest of my
- events afterwards in my days
- now i get
- um
- i recognized
- simply making them happy
- and so and so you know we think and of
- course importantly we we respect our
- elders and our prayers but if you happen
- to be in the in the mall or in
- a parking lot and there's an older
- person that happens to be here and you
- decide to maybe help them you know what
- i'm saying offload their cart or take
- their cars and put it where it belongs
- and so on so forth and they say thank
- you they don't have to be muslim they
- say thank you that in and of itself is a
- prayer that is because allah recognizes
- our service to others especially those
- that happen to be older
- and even more
- and you know i i alluded to just a few
- moments ago
- we think our parents are old they don't
- get it
- there's some things they don't get
- there's some things they do get there's
- certain things that they choose to
- ignore
- um you know
- but don't ever underestimate the values
- of
- and for them being alive and for those
- prayers that come your way i'm going to
- share two stories with you
- my grandfather
- very highest man in his old age he would
- prowl to make the praise to do his
- prayers you know i would call him
- and i would ask him i would say you know
- i say maybe up for me and he would get
- obsessed
- he would say you're not supposed to ask
- me to make you out for this job
- i cried i didn't cry because you died
- like it was just time to go
- i cried because
- a person who would wake up in
- young people must acknowledge that our
- elders especially our parents and even
- more
- you know a lot of us are you know
- here at this event rightfully so there's
- probably going to be a volunteering
- event on a saturday morning rightfully
- so but if there's stuff that needs to be
- done at home and your mom is asking you
- to do that that comes with anything else
- in the world
- what mom tells you to do what dad tells
- you to
- the do
- what the people need to do
- yeah i already answered
- how many
- is
- and i understand there may be a little
- bit of a difference there but in reality
- the fact is that the fact that your
- mother gave you birth that's enough for
- us to be at her service
- for the rest of our lives that's what
- that's what our that's what our
- solutions
- want i want to leave everyone in a state
- of gratitude for those of us that have
- the ability right um i i i got a phone
- call from someone a few nights ago
- there's a young family
- the mother in her late 30s
- died of cancer three years ago
- now four children all being raised by
- the father
- young men
- he passed away a day before ramadan
- so all of a sudden you got four kids
- without any chance right now i
- understand that some of you may be among
- those who may not have parents
- whatever the case may mean but in every
- moment of ours
- as parents um of us and many of us may
- not have been raised by our grandparents
- but the very command that allah gives to
- us when it comes to looking after your
- parents with the things of grant which
- is why in islamic law when you give your
- zakah for example you can't give the
- people whom you are required to
- financially look after and you can't
- give your zagat to your children you
- cannot give the task to your parents you
- can't even give the cash to your
- grandparents because if your
- grandparents were old and had no means
- of income
- and it's not just looking after them
- it's also knowing that our success lies
- in ensuring that we continue to look
- after them and i will tell you this i
- said this
- listen guys
- i want you to know i was your age at one
- point you know my parents were young too
- my dad walked with a cane now and i i
- never thought in my life a day would
- come when i would see my dad walking
- with a pain it was just it was just
- mind-blowing you know what i'm saying
- like you don't think about this as a
- young kid you just think dad is dead
- like he's going to be hustling bustling
- you know screaming driving around his
- entire life
- okay
- but in reality you know there came an
- age where that changed
- that change nothing
- um
- don't get me wrong my dad is awesome i'm
- just gonna be honest my dad's really hot
- my dad
- if i may share oh man i'm going to get a
- lot can i get into trouble no
- no i okay a lot kind of hesitated
- i'm not going to get in
- um but in any case uh i love i love my
- parents but what i mean to say is
- you know now he even needs i like i need
- to open the corridor for him for him to
- be able to get out when he gets out like
- sometimes he's wobbly he's got to hold
- him you know what i'm saying and like it
- changes really fast but that's when you
- need to be emotion we all need to be
- mentally emotionally prepared
- maybe for that day to come
- and if the responsibility of looking
- after your parents like how many of you
- have multiple brothers and sisters i'm
- sorry my answer is very long tell me
- this thought okay we all have multiple
- okay some of you so so sometimes when
- your parents get old and if they need
- you okay siblings usually fight like why
- do i have to look after them all the
- time why do i have to do things for them
- all the time your parents may do this
- with their siblings too by the way okay
- i'm just saying
- okay
- but the reality is
- what we've been taught
- is the is the child
- or the children
- who look after their parents are
- actually the lucky ones
- they've been chosen by allah and so that
- burden that financial burden that
- physical burden by the way there's a lot
- of burdens when it comes to looking
- after your parents it's actually not a
- burden it's an honor and don't ever
- forget that because as a result of that
- we believe in our tradition allah would
- look after you the rest of your life
- allah will look after your children
- allah will look after your means of
- sustenance like god opens his defined
- doors when we are there for our elders
- and our parents and that that's that's
- what makes our tradition so unique i'm
- not saying we're perfect
- i'm not saying i'm not saying anyone's
- perfect just saying that we have to try
- to do our best
- you know
- and so
- our next speaker
- mashallah is going to be joining us
- online is
- hussein kamani so he's an instructor at
- flam institute he was born and raised in
- elizabethtown kentucky and his journey
- to pursue sacred islamic knowledge began
- at the age of only six years old so by
- the time he was nine masa allah he had
- already become a hafiz and to further
- his studies in the islamic sciences he
- actually traveled to the uk and pursued
- you know formal islamic authorizations
- in gaza after that he was selected for
- a postgraduate level course in islamic
- law and legal verdicts so he completed
- that within two years he later earned
- another graduate degree in business
- management and he currently resides in
- dallas texas with his wife and four
- children masha'allah so you know as i
- mentioned
- kentucky right so he grew up in rural
- america and so he comes
- you know with this perspective of
- knowing how to connect to the quran
- regardless of your environment and so
- he's coming with us online mashaallah
- it's 3am there so we're really grateful
- for his time so inshallah please help us
- welcome mosti hussein kamani
- i wanted to start off the evening by
- first and foremost thanking our dear
- beloved chief aladdin for inviting me
- and for the tawaso team for setting this
- up
- an amazing awesome program
- i had the opportunity to listen to imam
- tahir and his amazing stories and may
- allah reward him for
- being here and for
- [Music]
- for
- sharing his wisdom allah subhanahu wa
- elevate him
- the
- subject that we have
- for today
- being muslim
- is a
- is a beautiful
- i don't know if you guys can hear me or
- not
- uh we'll start again
- so i was saying that i start off today
- by first and foremost
- uh thanking sheikh al-din bakri for his
- generosity of inviting me and setting up
- this program and the tawaso team
- for setting this amazing event up may
- allah subhanahu wa reward you today is
- the 29th tonight is the 29th night of
- ramadan 23rd night sorry and it's
- one of the possible
- nights of later
- and
- this is one of those nights that we
- spend wisely and
- in reality it's a night of ibadah
- we do these lectures just to motivate us
- and engage us but the true essence of
- the night lies
- in
- doing your worship
- right committing to a schedule and
- making dua allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala
- doing tilawa of the quran abundantly
- that's where the baraka is may allah
- subhanahu wa allow us to be from those
- who make the most of this night
- the quran is an amazing guide
- and it teaches us
- that which we would not know without it
- the quran is a road map for us
- and it teaches us to walk through the
- different paths of life and overcome the
- various hurdles
- so we can reach our ultimate goal which
- is the love of allah
- and by attaining the love of allah
- be from those who benefit from the
- reward of allah al-jannah inshallah
- the quran consists of stories
- and each of these stories carry
- a moral a lesson for us to learn from
- because it's through stories that people
- see
- complicated and very technical and
- sophisticated issues manifest in a
- simple easy way
- taqwa for example
- which means to be conscious of allah
- in essence is a very simple
- concept
- but
- when you bring this awareness and
- consciousness of allah into your life
- and as you go through life and you face
- different scenarios and you apply that
- taqwa
- it becomes
- um
- it becomes challenging
- because one thing is a word that has a
- definition
- to now a reality that you live every day
- it challenges you so the quran teaches
- us through examples and stories of how
- people in the past did this
- when i look at the stories of the quran
- i find them to be in two categories
- either allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala is
- telling us of people
- throughout history and throughout the
- passing of time
- who really messed up
- who did things that were so
- consequential
- they were so vile and horrible
- that allah warns us of their actions so
- that we take heed and avoid making those
- very same mistakes
- whether it was sexual immorality
- whether it was societal harms being
- inflicted on on others through
- economical oppression
- or
- whether those people chose arrogance as
- a path and return oppressed others
- ultimately
- attracting the anger of allah subhanahu
- wa
- but on the other hand we have stories
- of
- prophets of allah and friends of allah
- and allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala captures
- from their lives
- the most sincere moments in history
- it's as if their stories are like the
- wall of fame where allah lists out their
- names and captures those parts
- those few moments
- in history
- where sincerity reached its peak
- whether it's the wife of pharaoh
- asia
- who was tested for everything
- she had to give up everything she had
- to prove her love for allah
- or the many stories of rasulullah
- sallallahu alaihi wasallam where allah
- subhanahu wa revealed verses
- and the sahabah prove their loyalty to
- rasulullah
- so between these stories there are many
- lessons
- today i wanted to take a look at some
- verses of surah al-furqan
- allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala shares with us
- a story of a person
- and the reason why i share this story is
- because when we're in school
- you know on the day-to-day or whether
- we're at work on the day-to-day
- we have a responsibility to
- carry our iman
- on our chest and on our shoulders with
- pride and honor
- being muslim in the masjid while
- surrounded by fellow muslims is
- somewhat easier because there's an
- environment there and that's why
- gatherings like these are so important
- but ultimately
- your iman can't be left at the door of
- the masjid that has to follow you
- wherever you go where you become a
- billboard of dawa no matter where you
- are
- and
- as a result of that
- the beauty of islam spreads to the world
- and people are honored
- by finding iman
- and begin their journey to allah
- it's where your environment no longer
- exists that
- things become difficult
- praying salah in the masjid is easy
- praying at home is easy for many of us
- but praying salah work
- and praying salah
- at school becomes difficult because no
- one is really watching over our shoulder
- and there is a big transition that
- occurs for
- many of our children who spend years in
- islamic schools and then now it's time
- for them to move on to college
- university high school
- it's an opportunity for them to live
- everything they've learned now in this
- environment
- it takes a heart for a person to say
- it's a lot of time i'm going to pray
- for them to talk to their deen for them
- to talk to their principal and say that
- it's jummah we need a place to pray
- on the other hand there are some muslims
- unfortunately due to peer pressure
- social pressure
- intimidation
- that at these very critical points
- they walk away
- they hide their islam
- they cover their name
- that is
- a representation of their islam
- and
- this
- creates great harm in your own spiritual
- growth
- why should a person be shy of something
- that allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala has
- honored them with
- was once sitting with some persian
- generals
- and they were having a meal
- he dropped a morsel from his hand these
- were the wealthiest and the most
- influential human beings on the planet
- the persian generals
- so
- when he dropped his morsel he did what
- rasulullah said he was
- taught them to do which was he picked it
- up cleaned it and it was getting ready
- to eat it
- the person next to him elbowed him right
- away and said hey man what are you doing
- you know there's enough food here you
- don't need to pick up food from the
- ground and eat it
- you do realize that these people will
- look down upon you if you
- pick up food from the ground clean it
- and eat it that's not that's not proper
- so half one looked at the person
- and gave him a
- look of amazement and shock and almost
- belittling him like are you crazy
- and then said to him
- that you expect me to abandon the sunnah
- rasool allah for these idiots
- every person does what they want to
- every person chooses what they wish to
- do these guys are going to do whatever
- they want to do and i'm going to do what
- i want to do because i'm proud of it
- or persian or roman or indian or whoever
- it is
- companions that this is who i am except
- me for this
- in the quran we have a story of an
- individual who
- unfortunately made a bad decision
- there was a person in makkah karma
- who was a successful businessman
- was giving dawah to people in the early
- days of islam in mecca
- he hadn't accepted islam but when nabi
- is speak
- he would listen
- he would listen attentively
- he didn't read
- ridicule the prophet
- maybe he said allah
- had his eye on him
- and was waiting for the opportunity to
- give him
- one day he returned from a trip he
- gathered everyone in mecca together
- because of the successful
- nature of the journey and the prophet
- that he made
- so he threw a big feast
- he also invited rasulullah
- when it came time to serve food and
- every summer said to him
- i won't eat until you become muslim
- now that's a bold move i won't recommend
- you guys to pull something like this off
- did this because he knew that person and
- had his hand on the pulse and knew that
- he just needed a nudge
- and in front of everyone like this
- the arabs would never turn away their
- guest or their request
- so
- he
- did what nabi is expected him to do and
- you can see how the prophet
- sallam's pitch was very much calculated
- he said allah
- the next day
- when he was in the streets of makkah
- he met his buddies his old buddies
- i heard that you became muslim last
- night so you're hanging out with the
- muslims these days
- is that what you're planning to do
- so
- this individual said no i became muslim
- but i still want to hang out with you
- all you guys are my friends
- said well you're going to have to choose
- either it's them or us
- and this is a situation many of us find
- ourselves in that there is immense
- social and peer pressure
- this man unfortunately
- made the wrong decision
- and he said to abu jahl i choose you
- guys
- over them
- abu jahl said to him well then go to the
- prophet sallam
- and publicly
- reject his faith
- and in one narration he also said to him
- go and spit on his face
- humiliate him
- was a very
- horrible man
- who took advantage of the kindness of
- navi
- so this person came to the prophet
- saddam publicly in front of everyone
- and rejected the prophet he said a man
- also
- attempted to spit on the prophet
- sallallahu alaihi
- in one narration jibir ali salaam took a
- spit and threw it back on his face
- you had it
- you had iman it was in your heart you
- were one of us
- and then for these fools you folded
- the oppressor will be biting away at his
- fingers something people do when they're
- nervous and they know that there's
- trouble on the way
- he will say
- only if i had kept my path with the
- prophet if i was loyal
- because it's at these moments when life
- throws all sorts of scenarios at you
- that
- your iman is tested and whether you
- understand what taqwa means is tested
- whether you understand what love for the
- prophet of allah means
- this is tested
- because
- he
- distracted me dissuaded me
- misguided me
- from the remembrance and indicating
- meaning from this deen from the quran
- from this beautiful message
- after it had arrived with me
- after i had it in my hands and my heart
- it was here
- so in these blessed mubarak nights of
- ramadan
- one thing to make dua for is ya allah
- give us confidence in our iman
- make us firm
- make us advocates of this deen ya allah
- allow
- iman to reach the roots of my heart
- where it becomes a part of me
- and i am proud of it and you are proud
- of me too
- this is what a confident muslim is
- and this is what our deen calls us to
- this story of the quran is one
- that relates to many of us
- and i pray that allah
- allows it to be an inspiration for us
- that no matter where we are
- our allah is with us
- when we're walking in the hallway and
- the thought of haram enters into our
- minds
- we don't engage it because we know that
- our allah is with us
- when you're sitting in the traffic and a
- thought crosses your mind to look at
- something haram don't do it
- your allah is with you
- when you're at work and the thought
- crosses your mind let me cheat let me
- waste time let me do this let me do that
- let me just kill a little time on the on
- the internet and look at something or do
- something or skip my salah or skip my
- fast no one's watching
- taqwa is the reminder that your allah is
- with you no matter whoever you are
- whenever you are or where wherever you
- are
- time place or individual
- your allah is always with you
- may allah bless us with this
- understanding and bless us with the
- purest form of iman
- once again it was a pleasure being here
- uh with the tawaso team you guys are
- always doing amazing work i hope that
- very soon we're able to be together in
- person may allah prolong the life of
- for
- being such a positive influence on the
- community and something i mentioned
- before i
- uh was cut off earlier with the bad
- connection that uh it was a pleasure
- also seeing him on fire and hearing his
- stories
- the gathering of
- a source of mercy and so
- [Applause]
- all of your thoughts
- um
- and sold them subhanallah until they got
- enough of 100 halal income to
- allow him to pursue his education and so
- i mean subhanallah this is the fruit of
- his parents labor so may allah
- bless them and bless him insha'allah i
- mean
- um so
- we are going to move on to some trivia
- as i mentioned earlier this is just
- going to be a few questions we're going
- to throw in before our next speaker and
- this is specifically for the youth and
- so we're going to go
- one round for
- the males and one round to the females
- and there are ten dollar
- gift cards in sha allah for the winners
- so be attentive insha'allah so you want
- to start off with the first one
- all right
- brothers
- you guys want to talk to you when you
- hear the question
- all right so the first question
- this one's not too hard
- how many prophets are mentioned in the
- quran
- [Applause]
- from the sisters
- okay
- this one's a little bit trickier but you
- guys should be smarter in seoul
- okay so question number two
- which surah has the name
- allah in every verse
- yes all the way in the red scarf
- yes masala
- [Applause]
- amazing masala
- so we're going to have
- do you guys want more questions or
- should we go to the next speaker
- sure
- i can't hear you
- okay okay we'll do one more round
- okay
- trying to find a harder question for the
- brother
- okay this one you guys might have to
- guess a little
- how many times is the word quran
- mentioned in the quran
- back there all the way in the back how
- many times
- no
- no
- no
- no
- who's
- are you looking up
- who said that
- yeah yeah
- did you look it up
- at least he's honest okay let me ask
- another question
- come on brothers you gotta have takwa
- this is the month of ramadan
- okay we'll do another one
- okay
- a little bit easier than the last one
- which for profits
- are direct descendants of each other
- please don't look it up
- i saw your hand come up first
- okay yeah that's good that's four
- no that's four
- you said four masha'allah great job
- round of applause
- yeah
- and remember if you
- answered correctly then just come over
- to us on the side maybe afterwards just
- give us your email and we'll send you an
- e um gift card inshaallah okay
- last one for the sisters i'm gonna give
- you an easy one because they were
- cheating
- [Laughter]
- okay
- what was yusuf ali islam's real
- brother's name
- the full brother
- vimy ameen marshall
- all right
- um now we're gonna have malik introduce
- sister amina darwish and she's gonna be
- speaking for us inshallah
- all right guys give us one second
- okay
- [Music]
- okay
- if i get everyone quiet down
- okay
- next i'm going to be introducing sister
- amina darwish
- darwish started as the associate
- associate dean for religious and
- spiritual life and advisor for the
- muslim life in for muslim life in
- february of 2021 she earned a phd
- martial in chemical engineering before
- her passion for community building she
- remains passionate about including
- ethics meaning and service into stem
- disciplines
- she earned ijazat from the balam and
- critical loyalty seminaries including
- ejazza inten
- dr darwish brings unique a unique blend
- of understanding with the different
- cultures within the muslim community
- while staying grounded in traditional
- islamic scholarship please help me
- welcome
- you guys all hear me okay
- no
- hello
- hello
- what if i just project is this okay
- no
- i'm not sure what to do
- i'm really good at it though
- what about this is this better
- okay
- eat the mic is the
- thing i'm good
- in the name of allah the lord of mercy
- the giver of mercy and prayers and
- blessings beyond his beloved prophet
- muhammad
- so my my family and i we moved here in
- august so alhamdulillah
- dream of a master that provides
- it's really beautiful to remember the of
- our ancestors i remember when people
- were talking about the muslim ban and
- they were saying we're going to stop
- muslims from coming
- the biggest migration of muslims to
- america was actually enslaved people
- first of all you're 400 years too late
- second of all even if you belittle our
- muslim brothers and sisters that came
- before us doesn't mean we're going to do
- that
- subhanallah when i went to sierra leone
- and i remember i was sharing this with
- some of the imams there and they looked
- at me like oh cute american that doesn't
- know anything
- as hamdulillah they were my elders
- but they said actually those aren't the
- first muslims that went to america
- the first muslim that we know know of
- that went to america was actually a man
- by the name of man
- so mansa means king he was one of their
- kings and if you've heard of mansa musa
- this is his older brother
- subhanallah we had a muslim king that
- landed here a hundred and more than 150
- years before columbus doing what muslims
- do which is do dawah trade in judah
- subhanallah and i just think it's
- significant to point out our spiritual
- ancestry in this land
- these are our elders in terms of this
- particular piece of land of allah maybe
- we're all here because someone ran
- through the fields and said ya allah
- subhanallah alhamdulillah it's now past
- one in the morning and looking at a pact
- masjid alhamdulillah
- subhanallah so i was hoping to actually
- talk about some of the young people in
- the quran
- mentions a specific group and it's a
- really beautiful era
- says
- they were young people that believed in
- their lord and we increased them in iman
- and part of what's significant about
- this group is they actually found
- spiritual support in each other
- and this is the age where actually
- support your support groups within your
- age group actually become really really
- important subhanallah and having good
- company and having good friends
- is becomes really important
- i wanted to talk about actually two
- people one of the first one is ibrahim
- alaihissalam which
- actually i think imam khan had mentioned
- he was a young man
- and it and he's having this conversation
- with his people
- and is that these are in surat
- allah says
- this is how we showed ibrahim
- the deeper meanings of everything
- and he has this fascinating conversation
- with his people and it says
- when it was pitch black at night he saw
- a planet and the specificity of the
- quran is the brightest thing in the
- night sky is actually a planet and not a
- star subhanallah
- but he sees this planet and he says
- this is my lord.
- when the star disappeared he said i
- cannot worship something that's not
- constant
- which is fascinating our most
- foundational belief about allah is that
- he is
- the one that is ever living and the one
- that is sustaining
- i have no idea what that is
- hopefully that was an approval of al
- qaeda
- when he sees the moon and it's bigger
- and he says this is my lord
- and of course he knows the moon's gonna
- set the moon sets and he says
- if my lord does not guide me i will
- surely be lost
- and this is so beautiful part of our
- belief of allah has to be that he is
- beyond even us
- if he is above us and our lord he has to
- be able to communicate with us
- subhanallah and this is again another
- foundational belief we have of allah
- that allah is beyond everything we can
- imagine and then he sends us prophets so
- that we can know more about allah
- and then the last day he says
- he sees the son he's like this one's
- much bigger than my lord and sure enough
- the sun sets he knows the sun's gonna
- set
- and then he tells them in fact i worship
- the one that created the planet the moon
- and the sun
- the one that put all of this into motion
- and i i think he's subhanallah he's a
- young person as he's having this
- conversation and when you're
- maturing into an adult usually we talk
- about like the physical or emotional
- maturity into adulthood this is also the
- point where someone is spiritually
- maturing into adulthood this is the
- first time in your life where you become
- where you are accountable in front of
- allah but this is also the first time in
- someone's life that they're able to ask
- big questions
- why are we here
- what is the purpose of life
- what do we know about allah i used to
- work at youth camps i used to work at
- minna and they're 12 to 18 year olds and
- we go out into the middle of the woods
- and we would have a lot of these
- conversations and i promise you nothing
- squeezed my brain more than the mini
- kids
- all of the akita questions where you're
- asking who is allah
- how do we know allah
- and if you want to get to know someone
- you learn their name
- learn the names of allah
- this is our greatest introduction that
- we can have to allah
- and i just think it's so beautiful how
- it's young people that are having this
- discussion in the same way that we do
- dial with other people it's important
- that we have those same conversations
- with our youth
- they're asking these questions for the
- very first time in their lives
- and not being able to have the space to
- answer them can create a spiritual
- crisis and it does create spiritual
- crisis for people that aren't able to
- sit and intellectually engage and
- spiritually engage on allah
- which actually brings me to the second
- person i was hoping to talk about
- so another young person again subhan
- allah says
- talked about the ayah where she said
- yeah
- she's saying something that is
- inherently so devastating she's saying
- if only i had died before today and i
- was long forgotten
- what would make someone say that
- and i and i in some of this fsc they say
- it was because she feared the the
- physical pain of labor
- which i've met women that have had
- babies and said let's do this again
- let's have more babies
- my personal opinion is not physical pain
- for someone to say this it has to be
- something inherent to who they are
- that's getting threatened
- and if we think about who she was she
- used to she used to be in baton rouge
- used to worship all day she had lost
- panitata would provide her with us then
- she wouldn't give to other people
- like this is the person who lived at the
- masjid and all they did was pray and
- feed the poor
- you say salah and zakat and that's all
- she did subhanallah
- and she knows allah gave her a difficult
- test
- and as soon as he is born
- speaks to her and he calms her down he
- literally tells her
- don't be sad
- allah's got you
- and she comes back into the city
- carrying sadness
- when someone speaks to you you don't
- even need to respond again allah's got
- you
- she walks into the city and they
- immediately start shaming her with her
- name and with her family and i'm sure
- you guys of any any time i used to screw
- up and you're like who are your parents
- your doctor hannah's daughter did you
- really screw this up and it was like oh
- my god please don't tell my mom like
- there isn't a bigger threat than i'm
- going to call your mom
- or your dad depending on
- on who what your parents relationship is
- like subhanallah
- they told her maryam what have you done
- you're haroon's sister
- your father was a good man your mother
- was not a bad woman how dare you do this
- also i don't know how long it takes to
- go like this
- because she's holding the baby and she's
- pointing to him it says
- before she could before anything she's
- still pointing towards him
- and they immediately said
- how can we possibly talk to a newborn
- child
- and allah allows
- them to speak
- allah has made me his servant he has
- given me the book and he has made me a
- prophet
- what's also really fascinating about
- what he says in that series of ayat he
- says
- i will be righteous towards my mother
- i will have my mother's back
- this is supposed to be a religious
- community
- in a masjid that was giving her a hard
- time and threatening who she is and
- shaming her
- and the first thing the prophet
- alaihissalam said
- besides that he is a prophet
- i have my mother's back
- stop shaming people
- i don't know why we have this like
- culture of like shame and guilt
- no one's ever been shamed or guilted
- into wanting to do more good
- loves us
- internalize that allah loves you
- allah wants you to succeed
- allah set it up so that every good deed
- that you do you get 10 times the reward
- you make a mistake it only counts as one
- allah said anything you do ask me for
- forgiveness i'll forgive you
- allah forgives all shortcomings
- allah will forgive all of your sins if
- you just ask
- allah wants us to succeed the
- manifestation of our parents love in our
- lives is a manifestation of the love
- that allah gifted us
- since you were born allah has given you
- people to love you
- since you were born allah has fed you
- and clothed you
- allah the evidence of allah's love is so
- overwhelming
- don't let anyone shame you or guilt you
- out of it subhanallah
- let's have these conversations and let's
- make sure our spiritual spaces are the
- spaces that are
- loving and open for everyone to come in
- and be able to ask the questions
- i want to say this and i also want to
- say i completely understand when a
- parent and their 14 year old comes home
- is like how do we know allah exists and
- they panic they're like they forgot
- everything i taught them in 14 years
- they have it
- they're just asking it for the first
- time
- may allah allow us all to have these
- spiritual experiences together there's
- nothing more beautiful in the world than
- watching a group of young people have
- their very first spiritual experience
- together and they're bound forever
- because of it subhanallah
- may allah can continue to put love in
- our hearts for each other
- continue to put love in our message for
- everyone here i mean
- grant us your love the love of those
- that you love and the love of everything
- that brings us closer to your love and
- zach
- [Applause]
- those are my students i'm feeling
- beloved
- so we are actually going to have to
- amina um after our last speaker come
- back again for some q a insha'allah so
- we're not done with her yet thank you so
- much alhamdulillah
- and yeah we can see how all these topics
- are starting to connect with each other
- and
- to introduce our last speaker right into
- this before we get into our full q a
- session so we can have all of our
- information in sha allah we actually
- have shift of the janda joining us
- online from dallas insha'allah so i'm
- going to introduce him really quickly
- and then we'll go on
- online can't help them
- okay fine if you guys want trivia we can
- do that in between
- okay okay
- okay let's be trivia and since i'm here
- i mean i guess we'll get the sisters
- started
- um
- medic
- you have to get the brothers in and
- challah um
- so
- we have um
- looking for a harder question for you
- guys because
- everyone knows a lot of these and so
- um my first question to you is
- so we have um
- sures and medanispures right
- did you know that raise your hands
- great okay and so you know each soda
- from a different place that it was
- revealed has different characteristics
- and so for example mech and surahs are
- usually a little bit shorter maybe
- they're rhyming because you know when
- they were revealed they were revealed in
- the city of the um disbelievers and so
- trying to capture attention as fast as
- you can so my question to you is
- how many surahs were revealed in mecca
- yes
- 30
- 30 no yes
- 16 nope
- no not 40.
- not 40.
- okay you got it
- come on they're going to steal it
- yes
- not
- not 64.
- okay last one
- last one
- you play higher or lower higher and
- lower
- higher
- [Music]
- yes
- that took a while guys come on we can go
- faster
- um
- this
- okay too slow we're gonna have to get
- another question
- wow he doesn't believe in you guys he
- said you're not going to get it
- it's okay i'm sure somebody will die
- okay
- number
- man one
- woman appeared
- lowered
- lower
- a little lower
- uh
- yeah come up to me for the ten dollar
- gift card and please if you didn't win
- like we don't have you tracked down so
- don't come to me for the ten dollar gift
- card
- okay
- okay great so
- we got the echo again nice
- we're gonna do a really quick um intro
- testing
- if you guys want to hear my voice and
- delay then
- the back over there
- okay this one now let's just do it so
- she called the nostalgia he's the
- founder director and instructor at falam
- institute mashallah and so he was born
- and raised in dallas he currently
- resides there with his wife and three
- children masha'allah he memorized the
- quran also at an early age in karachi
- and so after high school he actually
- returned to karachi and he pursued um
- studying islamic sciences at jamia
- binoria
- and he graduated
- he obtained a bastard bachelors and
- masters in arabic from the karachi
- university
- um
- and you know the rest of this i don't
- think you need to hear it in an echo
- delayed way so let's just have them on
- inshaallah assalamu alaikum
- sent me some pictures of the gathering
- over there and uh such a beautiful uh
- lively gathering mashallah so many
- people especially young folks uh
- gathering together in these blessed
- nights of the month of ramadan at the
- masjid at the house of allah
- to
- grow in their deen to grow with their
- spirituality to connect with the quran
- to connect with the book of allah it's
- really inspiring masha'allah and i would
- have loved to have been there with you
- alhamdulillah
- but you know obviously it being the
- month of ramadan it's a very you know
- busy hectic time
- um and so i and i apologize a little bit
- for the delay in getting here i
- literally was just coming from another
- yam program that we were having here uh
- locally so um alhamdulillah happy to be
- here with y'all
- and really uh just excited about this
- opportunity to be able to connect
- uh
- with the quran uh as is the title
- powered by the quran and to be able to
- spend this quality time together and be
- able to reflect on the book of allah
- together and be able to come closer to
- allah together
- so
- i'm going to go ahead and jump right
- into the session
- and you know what i'm going to be
- talking about is
- how the quran
- powered
- the sahaba radhiallahu anhum the
- companions of the prophet salallahu
- islam in their faith
- and
- the
- i wanted to share a story and inshallah
- discuss it from the point of view of
- this story
- and
- you know this is a little bit of an
- interesting kind of story
- but i really felt that this would you
- know help to make the point
- of how the quran is just such a powerful
- source of light a source of faith
- and a way to be able to find you know
- it's a means to finding our way and to
- gaining that light of iman and faith
- and i wanted to share the story of none
- other than
- one of the most you know um
- illustrious people from our history one
- of the most illustrious of the
- companions of the prophet sallallahu
- alaihi wasallam and that is none other
- than um
- um
- is a very interesting story
- um and maybe some of y'all have kind of
- come across it before
- but uh for the sake of you know making
- sure that everyone is able to
- understand and follow the conversation
- and be able to benefit from it um
- is
- the individual
- uh about whom the prophet sallallahu
- alaihi wasallam made these kinds of
- comments where the prophet salallahu
- said there are two individuals that you
- know are
- uh that that i rely upon that i depend
- on in that sense like two individuals i
- can count on
- in the heavens that is
- the archangels gabriel and michael
- and there are two individuals on the
- earth and they are abu bakr and um
- the prophet salallahu
- when you
- come walking down a street when you go
- walking down a path
- and shaytaan
- is on that path he changes his path
- shaitaan runs from you
- right we're all trying to run from
- shaytan and shaytan runs from you
- and the prophet sallallahu alaihi
- wasallam said
- that i am the seal of prophethoods i am
- the finality of prophets
- if there was going to be a prophet after
- me would have been somebody like omar
- so
- that is the
- you know that those are the accolades of
- umar that is who um was i mean to be
- given the title why the prophet
- salallahu of
- that you
- as a person
- are the distinguisher
- between right and wrong good and bad so
- just imagine you know how remarkable um
- is
- but he wasn't always that person he
- wasn't always that person um
- has a very interesting history before he
- became muslim in the first few years of
- the mission of the prophet salallahu
- salaam he was actually one of
- the staunchest
- opponents
- to islam and to the message of the
- prophet salallahu there are many of the
- early companions who actually were
- tormented and even tortured by um
- that's how staunchly against he was
- that's how staunchly he was against the
- mission of the prophet salallahu and the
- muslims there's even a fascinating story
- where
- there was a
- a couple who were from the early muslims
- and once the you know the uh
- the opportunity was given that the
- muslims could
- migrate to abyssinia to habasha east
- africa and take refuge there take asylum
- there
- that they decided to take that
- opportunity because they were dealing
- with a lot of you know
- torment and persecution and oppression
- and torture
- and specifically um
- he had
- you know tortured these this couple and
- he had tormented them so they decide to
- go to east africa
- and
- they are traveling they're leaving and
- when they reach
- the boundary of the city of mecca they
- reach near the city limits
- the husband remembered that he forgot
- something that they would need
- so he said i have to go get it so his
- wife said what are we gonna do
- and so he said you stay here you wait
- here with our stuff and i'm gonna go get
- it and come right back don't worry
- she said hurry hurry you know i don't
- want us just i don't want somebody to
- come and get us and snatch us or do
- something bad to us
- so he goes to get the stuff and a little
- while later guess who comes walking
- along
- and now this sahabi this woman when she
- sees
- uh this muslim woman when she sees
- just like you know her her heart just
- drops
- and um walks up to her and says you know
- he sees bags with her so where are you
- going
- and she says in that moment i just was
- overcome by just this emotion
- that you know a frustration of you know
- being tormented
- so i don't know i just found this
- you know this this courage
- and i said to him that you know you have
- made our lives impossible
- so we are leaving
- and you did this to us
- when he hears that
- he has a little moment of
- reflection
- and he kind of looks down he looks away
- he's it's as if he's a bit embarrassed
- of himself
- and
- he just says to her he says
- may god be with you on your journey
- and without making eye contact he just
- kind of turns around and walks away
- now she's shocked and astonished by this
- interaction like what just happened here
- a little while later her husband comes
- back and she's just
- looks like you know like we say like she
- looks like she's seen a ghost
- so he says to her
- that you know what happened is
- everything okay
- and she says that you won't believe what
- happened
- he says
- what
- so she says omar came he's like oh no oh
- my god
- what happened
- like how are you still here how are you
- still alive
- and she says that
- you know she tells him about what
- happened what transpired
- and then she has this look on her face
- and the husband says to her
- attorney islami
- that wait a second because you know he
- knows his wife and he's like do you
- actually think there's a chance he could
- become muslim
- and she said yes i do
- so he says to her at that time
- that the
- donkey of al-khattab
- would become muslim before the son of
- al-khattab umar would
- and he says you know i regretted that
- statement later of course but
- that's what um was
- now he
- has a couple of interactions with the
- quran
- like where does how does somebody go
- from there
- to then where he ends up
- what i what i started with
- and
- literally the theme is
- powered by the quran
- so he says that one day
- he goes to
- the haram
- and the prophet salallahu is there and
- the prophet was praying
- and the prophet had the protection of
- abu talib and that's why he could go and
- just kind of pray by himself
- and you know nobody could kind of touch
- him even though he was assaulted and
- attacked a few times but for the most
- part they just knew they had to leave
- him alone because of abu talib
- and
- um
- who said i said let me just start let me
- listen to what this guy is saying
- so he hears the prophet saws i'm
- reciting
- that i swear
- by what you can see
- and by what you cannot see
- it's very powerful very
- thought-provoking
- that think about everything you can see
- and think about everything you can see
- that all of it is created by allah
- this indeed
- is a message being delivered by a noble
- messenger
- and he says when i heard this i thought
- to myself oh i get it
- he's a poet
- he's a poet he's good with words
- he uses these fancy words to kind of
- entrance people
- and then the prophet saws recited the
- next ayah
- these are not the words of a poet
- why don't you believe
- and he says when i heard that i said
- whoa
- how do you know what i was thinking
- i get it
- he's not he's not a poet
- he's a sorcerer
- he's a soothsayer he's a mind reader
- he's a magician
- and then the prophet recited in the next
- verse
- these are not the words of a soothsayer
- these are not the chantings of a of a
- magician or a sorcerer
- think why are you not thinking
- why are you not reflecting
- and he said it hit me like a ton of
- bricks i was like oh my god
- what's going on here
- then what is it
- if it's not
- poetry if it's not sorcery
- then what could this be
- and then the prophet recited the next
- verse
- that this is revelation from the lord of
- the worlds
- and then he continued reciting the rest
- of it
- very powerful
- that if he were to fabricate this and
- make this up from himself
- we would grab his right thumb
- and we would cut him at the neck
- and nobody could protect him that this
- is from allah guaranteed
- signed sealed and dated
- this is a reminder for people who are
- conscious of god
- and we know
- some of you all are rejecting this and
- still refuse to believe this even though
- you know deep down inside in your heart
- of hearts that this is the truth you
- still reject it and deny it
- that this will be a source of great
- regret and remorse and the downfall of
- those who disbelieve
- this is the ultimate truth
- so praise and glorify your lord the name
- of your lord who is mighty
- who's brand
- and he says i heard that and i was just
- in a daze
- but he says unfortunately
- it still didn't
- you know kind of break
- the
- you know just the frame of mind that i
- was in
- and then the story fast forwards where
- one day
- the leaders of quraysh are talking about
- you know oh muhammad sallam and the
- muslims that and islam this and the
- sahaba that
- and he finally says you know you guys
- just talk a lot
- i'm going to do something about it
- they're like yeah go ahead
- so he says that he
- brandished his sword just kind of
- took his sword out
- and it's like somebody walking around
- with a gun
- and he just started walking
- and he said i'm going to go take care of
- muhammad sallallahu alaihi
- and he says along the way he runs into
- a muslim who who was keeping his islam
- hidden private nobody knew he was muslim
- and he says that i ran into him and he
- saw umar
- walking around with his sword waving a
- sword around and he's like that doesn't
- look good
- so he says what's going on everything
- okay and he said i'm gonna go take care
- of this muhammad problem once and for
- all
- and now this
- this guy who's a muslim
- obviously and he's keeping his islam
- hidden
- private
- but he hears somebody talking about
- attacking the prophet saddam and it just
- you know he can't listen to that
- so he says you know he says i to he said
- that you know you just want to kill
- somebody because he says allah is my
- lord and he comes to you with proof okay
- and he says you sound like one of them
- you talk like one let me take care of
- you then i'll go take care of him
- so then he said i you know the other guy
- pulled the sword out as well and they
- were about to go at it in the street
- and then he said i just got like
- you know frustrated and i said to omar
- that you know you go around
- trying to tell other people what to do
- but you can't even keep your own family
- in order
- and he says what do you mean by that
- and he said that
- i told him at that time
- you know your sister fatima bintal
- khatta her husband said
- they're muslim they were one they were
- some of the earliest muslims um sister
- became muslim before he did
- and so he says that they're muslim
- he says what
- he says i'll deal with you later and he
- storms over to his sister's house
- gets outside the door he can hear
- somebody talking inside
- bangs on the door
- the talking stops his brother-in-law
- comes and opens the door
- almost pounces on him through the door
- pushes through the door and starts
- beating him
- and then his sister jumps in and tries
- to stop him and
- he kind of pushes her off and she falls
- and is bleeding and
- and then i'm gonna realize is like what
- am i doing here
- so then he kind of stops and his sister
- says to him you can kill us if you want
- but you can't take our faith away from
- us
- and so then he kind of settles down a
- little
- and then he says you know when he
- settles down a little he sees some pages
- and there's a quran written on it
- and
- he says that let me see this and she
- takes it she goes no you can't touch
- this
- and he's like let me see it
- so then she says okay kind of you know
- clean yourself up a little fix yourself
- up
- and then he takes the pages and he
- starts reading
- that we did not send down the quran upon
- you o muhammad sallallahu alaihi
- wasallam to make your life more
- difficult
- to ruin you no no
- this is a reminder for those who will
- fear allah
- this is revelation sent from the one who
- created the earth and the heavens most
- high ar
- that he is the most merciful positioned
- above his throne the
- he owns everything in the heavens
- everything in the earth everything
- between them and everything buried under
- the earth
- and if you speak out loud he knows what
- you're saying but he also knows what you
- say silently and even what you're
- thinking inside your head
- that he is allah there's no one worthy
- of worship except for him and to him
- belong the most beautiful of names
- and he reads this
- and he's just
- just changed
- right we talk about powered by the quran
- his life has changed
- and he says
- he looks up from the pages
- tears in his eyes
- and he says to his sister
- take me to the prophet salallahu
- and
- there was someone hiding in the house
- when he had heard some of the voices
- inside it's
- teaching them the quran that's what
- those pages were for
- and he comes out of hiding and he says
- congratulations
- the prophet saws have made dua for you
- that you would accept islam
- and
- um
- they take him to where the process is in
- the house
- when they arrive at the door and they
- knock on the door and somebody looks out
- and they say oh my there's this panic oh
- no it's alma
- three days ago hamza
- would become muslim
- was big tough guy
- so he goes to the door
- and he opens the door and he grabs
- what do you want
- what are you trying to do here
- and the prophet salallahu it's okay
- leave him
- come
- and he sits down in front of the prophet
- saws he says what do you want what are
- you here for
- and he says i'm here
- to accept islam
- and he puts his hand in the hand of the
- prophet saws
- and he becomes muslim
- and from that point on forward abdullah
- ibn mas
- says we never felt like we
- would lose after that day because we had
- omar with us
- that very few people can say
- that
- islam was strengthened through them
- but
- can be said about him
- this really remarkable scholar
- he said something very beautiful
- um i found it quite
- thought provoking
- he said that all the sahabah
- were the mureed
- of the prophet salallahu they came
- seeking the prophet sasa
- but umar was the murad of the prophet
- the prophet saw salaam prayed for umar
- he wanted umar on his side
- so while everyone
- was trying to find the process on the
- prophet saw was waiting for umar
- he was looking for omar
- and
- this transformation that omar went
- through
- right to be completely as opposite as
- you can imagine
- and to end up here
- it was a quran
- that powered that journey
- it was the quran that transformed him
- and this is the month of ramadan this is
- the month of the quran
- so the quran is not
- information the quran is transformation
- the quran is not informative just simply
- it is informative but it is more
- importantly transformative
- and so as we engage with the quran here
- in the month of ramadan particularly
- here towards the end of the month of
- ramadan
- let's keep that in mind let's have that
- intention
- that we want to transform ourselves to
- the quran
- and that's why particularly
- my advice to everybody
- to myself
- but to everyone particularly younger
- folks
- young men young women of our community
- is to
- [Music]
- read the translation of the quran
- strive to understand the message of the
- quran
- and that's
- what will really allow you to connect
- with that message
- and that is what will lead insha'allah
- to the transformation that we're all
- looking for
- on everyone uh barakallahu
- of course um
- um
- and uh all the organizers the volunteers
- at tawaso
- uh may allah bless you may allah accept
- from y'all this is remarkable this is
- beautiful this is powerful
- it's encouraging it's something that
- inspires all of us is gathering and all
- the programs and all the gatherings and
- all the events and
- all the efforts that are being made and
- i'm just uh pleased and happy to be able
- to participate in any capacity and uh
- you know especially since
- you know 2020 ever since we kind of
- became restricted due to covid uh in
- terms of you know
- [Music]
- travel and programming and things like
- that alhamdulillah that kind of became
- an opportunity for me
- um you know to be able to engage more
- with tawaso and to be a witness to the
- remarkable work that is going on and
- i have a long-standing an outstanding
- commitment and a promise to sheikh
- al-audeen in sha allah to come visit in
- person and just be able to sit in the
- gathering and really uh be a part of
- such a beautiful and blessed gathering
- may allah
- foreign
- um
- [Music]
- okay
- and i know he doesn't want any
- introduction but um just before he comes
- up and saw a lot he's you know really
- worked hard um with the waffle and so
- many different organizations
